Specifically WHAT TRUTH is sanctifying??

There are many precious truths contained in the Word of God, but it is "present truth" that the flock needs now.  I have seen the danger of the messengers running off from the important points of present truth, to dwell upon subjects that are not calculated to unite the flock and sanctify the soul.  Satan will here take every possible advantage to injure the cause.  {EW 63.1}

But such subjects as the sanctuary, in connection with the 2300 days, the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, are perfectly calculated to explain the past Advent movement and show what our present position is, establish the faith of the doubting, and give certainty to the glorious future.  These, I have frequently seen, were the principal subjects on which the messengers should dwell.  {EW 63.2}

In a special sense Seventh-day Adventists have been set in the world as watchmen and light bearers.  To them has been entrusted the last warning for a perishing world.  On them is shining wonderful light from the word of God.  They have been given a work of the most solemn import -- the proclamation of the first, second, and third angels' messages.  There is no other work of so great importance.  They are to allow nothing else to absorb their attention.  {9T 19.1}

The most solemn truths ever entrusted to mortals have been given us to proclaim to the world.  The proclamation of these truths is to be our work.  The world is to be warned, and God's people are to be true to the trust committed to them.  They are not to engage in speculation, neither are they to enter into business enterprises with unbelievers; for this would hinder them in their God-given work.  {9T 19.2}

The question for us to study is, "What is truth -- the truth that is to be cherished, loved, honored, and obeyed?"  The devotees of science have been defeated and disheartened in their efforts to find out God.  What they need to inquire at this time is, "What is the truth that will enable us to win the salvation of our souls?"  {MH 456.3}

"What think ye of Christ?" -- this is the all-important question.  Do you receive Him as a personal Saviour?  To all who receive Him He gives power to become sons of God.  {MH 457.1}

Christ revealed God to His disciples in a way that performed in their hearts a special work, such as He desires to do in our hearts.  There are many who, in dwelling too largely upon theory, have lost sight of the living power of the Saviour's example.  They have lost sight of Him as the humble, self-denying worker.  What they need is to behold Jesus.  Daily we need the fresh revealing of His presence.  We need to follow more closely His example of self-renunciation and self-sacrifice.  {MH 457.2}

We need the experience that Paul had when he wrote: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20.  {MH 457.3}

The knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ expressed in character is an exaltation above everything else that is esteemed on earth or in heaven.  It is the very highest education.  It is the key that opens the portals of the heavenly city.  This knowledge it is God's purpose that all who put on Christ shall possess.  {MH 457.4}

The work of sanctification is the work of a lifetime; it must go on continually; but this work cannot go on in the heart while the light on any part of the truth is rejected or neglected.  The sanctified soul will not be content to remain in ignorance, but will desire to walk in the light and to seek for greater light.  As a miner digs for gold and silver, so the follower of Christ will seek for truth as for hidden treasures, and will press from light to a greater light, ever increasing in knowledge.  He will continually grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth.  Self must be overcome.  Every defect of character must be discerned in God's great mirror.  We may discover whether or not we are condemned by God's standard of character.  {1SM 317.2}

 Have always said that ONLY TRUTH will sanctify.  If one believes in false 'truth' it WILL NOT sanctify.  We have to be so careful.  If we become satisfied in false 'truth' then we will unknowingly reject or neglect the REAL truth.  Oh how fragile we are......

This is my question...

Hi nb, there are multiple ways of answering this question, and the answers end up in the same place.

Let me illustrate with an example.

One of the early quotes above talks about the sanctuary doctrine, and a later quote talks about gaining an intimate knowledge of Christ.

There are Bible verses that integrate these approaches.  For example, Hebrews 10:19 mentions entering into the Most Holy Place by the blood of Christ.

If two people have open hearts, and one starts with the sanctuary doctrine, and the other with focusing on emulating Christ's character, and both continue in their pursuit of the truth, then both will win the salvation of their souls.

Here's another brief quote that comes to mind:

The correct understanding of the ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our faith.  {Ev 221.2}

John 14:6 Jesus replied, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus is the truth.

He is obviously our mediator, as we must go "through" him.

Where is he and what is he doing?

These are questions only God's remnant church - the Seventh-day Adventist church, can answer truthfully.

Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth, -- to set men right through the revelation of God.  In Christ was arrayed before men the paternal grace and the matchless perfections of the Father.  In his prayer just before his crucifixion, he declared, "I have manifested thy name."  "I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do."  When the object of his mission was attained, -- the revelation of God to the world, -- the Son of God announced that his work was accomplished, and that the character of the Father was made manifest to men.  {ST, January 20, 1890 par. 9}

This is my question...

Several have written to me, inquiring if the message of justification by faith is the third angel's message, and I have answered, "It is the third angel's message in verity."  {Ev 190.3}

This message was to bring more prominently before the world the uplifted Saviour, the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.   It presented justification through faith in the Surety; it invited the people to receive the righteousness of Christ, which is made manifest in obedience to all the commandments of God.  Many had lost sight of Jesus.  They needed to have their eyes directed to His divine person, His merits, and His changeless love for the human family.  All power is given into His hands, that He may dispense rich gifts unto men, imparting the priceless gift of His own righteousness to the helpless human agent.  This is the message that God commanded to be given to the world.  It is the third angel's message, which is to be proclaimed with a loud voice, and attended with the outpouring of His Spirit in a large measure.  {Ev 190.4}

John 14:20-21 KJV  John 14 a powerful chapter  aww

[20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

John 15:5,7-8,10 KJV

[5] I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

[7] If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

[8] Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

[10] If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

from the Bible and backed up by SOP , this is the Truth that will sanctify

where do we find Jesus?  In the sanctuary. He has come to abide with us in an intimate way.

"As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.  If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in His love" (John 15:9, 10).  Let us thank God that this is our privilege.  Though we are sent out into the world, we can keep before us the example of the pattern Man, and in His strength carry out the principles of overcoming.  It is only the overcoming Christian who will reach the kingdom of heaven.  May God help us in this matter, is my prayer.  Let us see that we keep His commandments in all our dealings with one another.  When we not only talk, but live our religion, we shall show that we are branches of the living vine.  {1SAT 399.4}

I think this nails it ! !

To love God with all the heart, to be a partaker with Christ in His humiliation and suffering, means more than many understand. The atonement of Christ is the great central truth around which cluster all the truths which pertain to the great work of redemption. The mind of man is to blend with the mind of Christ. This union sanctifies the understanding, giving the thoughts clearness and force. He who is thus united with Christ can do medical missionary work that is excellent in God s sight.. 16LtMs, Lt 122, 1901, par. 14

Jesus said, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."  Of Christ it was written, "He will magnify the law, and make it honorable."  How did he do this? -- He lived out the law in the sight of the heavenly universe, in the sight of unfallen worlds, and in the sight of sinful men.  In this earth he performed his mission, and fulfilled his office, and, by obedience to the law of God, he testified to all its immutable character, while at the same time proving that its precepts could be perfectly obeyed through his grace by every son and daughter of Adam.  {ST, March 14, 1895 par. 1}

Human talent and human conjecture have tried by searching to find out God. Many have trodden this pathway. The highest intellect may tax itself until it is wearied out, in conjectures regarding God, but the effort will be fruitless; and the fact will remain that man, by searching, cannot find out God. something to share encouraging in these times full of lies and deceit

Ellen White is a prophet of God and in many ways God showed me this even through an old occult book  written in 1914-1917 in which I read that demons are afraid of someone reading book by Ellen White The Great Controversy.

They actually discourage the person they are communicating with through spiritistic channeling from reading her book

I really like this one, and want to show it to those who are vocal recently saying that they know exactly who and who isn't God. I've told them many times that if we knew exactly everything about God, then we would be God, so it is impossible, and not for us to know. I think of the deception of the serpent in the Garden...

Thank you, and thank God for giving us the Spirit of Prophecy. smile

Jesus is waiting with longing desire to open before his people the glory that will attend his second advent, and to carry them forward to a contemplation of the landscape of bliss. There are wonders to be revealed. A long lifetime of prayer and research will leave much unexplored and unexplained. But what we know not now will be revealed hereafter. The work of instruction begun here will be carried on to all eternity. The Lamb, as he leads the hosts of the redeemed to the fountain of living waters, will impart rich stores of knowledge; he will unravel mysteries in the works and providence of God that have never before been understood. .
