What is the 3rd baptism?

Hi Everyone,

We all know about baptism with water and baptism of the Holy Spirit.  There is a third baptism.   CAn anyone show me in the Bible where that is located?  Or, in SOP?

Newbie,

I believe the third baptism you are looking for is revealed in this text:

Acts

19:4   Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

19:5   When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

These texts reveal what type of baptism John was doing.  I believe, though, that it should not be called a third baptism, because I don't believe it possible to be baptized in Christ's name without repentance.  Could it be that these are the same baptism now, that being repentance in Christ Jesus' name?  Tell me your thinking here.

Dennis,

That is interesting as I didn't think of that one.  For them it indeed was a thrid baptism with one being a false type.  There will also be a third death for some......

I was thinking of the third baptism in reference to the disciples of Jesus then and even today.  John the B. qualified.  The 144,000 will qualify.   I'm lacking scripture for some of this.....  I know it's there I just can't find it....I'm sure Jesus said it at some point.  I think it might be in Rev. too and maybe back in one of the old test. prophets too.  SOP would work for me too.

Never heard of this "3rd baptism" or for that matter, "3rd death" either

The third baptism is a real baptism and I think was mentioned by Jesus but not in those exact words.  It is referred to as a baptism.  It does not include any false baptisms.

The third death involves only a select few.  It would be for the ones that are in the special resurrection.  Those that Christ said they would see him coming in his Glory those that pierced Him.  They died back in their day.  They will be a part of the wicked raised up at the second coming to see Christ coming in all his glory and then die due to the bright light.  Then, when Christ comes back again with the New Jerusalem they will be raised up again for the final fight and will die in the lake of fire.  Therefore, 3 deaths for those that pierced Him.

Luke, chapter 3:16  John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: 17: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

Matthew  20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.   23: And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

I think that these scriptures refer to the 3rd baptism.  There are also references in Rev. but I haven't found them yet.  What do you think?

There is a baptism with water and the Holy Spirit that all must have to enter heaven.

Then there is a special "baptism", that is a figurative term Jesus used for the incredible trial that the 144,000 will go thru.  This "baptism" is commonly called - The Time of Jacob's Trouble.

The original 1858GC has no mention of those who pierced Christ seeing his 2nd Coming, but does talk about them witnessing his 3rd Coming (after he raises them when standing outside the Holy City).  No one dies more than twice i believe, but i'm not adamant on that

Actually I guess it was in SOP that talked about the baptism that is different from water and spirit.

Newbie,

You might be refering to something you have confused as a baptism.  It has been stated by many that Christ's sacrifice on the cross and His burial in the ground, along with His ressurection, is a kind of baptism.  In other words, a metaphor or symbolism of baptism.  Could it be that you may have heard something along these lines and could be mistaking it for something written in the Bible?  Not insinuating, just trying to jog memory.

i've been baptized a third time and I'll tell you what it is.  It is known as the baptism of the resurrection and includes worship, finance and souls being won to Christ.

Innis,  that was not actually what I was talking about but you bring up a good point.  When sermons are given there should always be a call for renewed faith.  A call for rededication.  A call for the first coming to Christ.  A call for the backsliden.  A call for a new step forward in Christ.

The third baptism is the trial that refines the sealed saints.  Then, they will be glorified and ready for the kingdom.  yahoo.gif

My question is WHEN is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?  I know when the water baptism is performed, and know that at some time in the future the Gethsemane experience type of baptism will occur, but when is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?  When the water baptism takes place?   Or perhaps when the loud cry goes?

Matt 3:11 says the third baptism will be with fire.  Precious medals are cleansed by fire not to be burned but to be purified and perfected.  Fire often represents trials and persecutions.  The servant is not greater than his Lord and if our Lord drank of the bitter cup of persecution, so will we.

The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth and Jesus said Sanctify them through the truth...This truth will then cleanse us.  Everyday we must stand for truth and as we stand we are being cleansed.  So everyday there is a baptism that the Holy Spirit leads us in.

Moreover the Holy Spirit fell on a group on the day of Pentecost.  This I thought was the early rain and another rain will fall in the days nearing the closing of probation which would be considered the latter rain.  This also is considered baptism because the Lord added to the church daily as many as would be saved.  The leaders had to be on one accord and put all their filth(sins) away. This is a cleansing and the people who came had to put away sins also.

I agree godmyrock with your view of the 3rd baptism.

webmaster, I believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit of God did take place at pentecost, and during the midnight cry, and will happen again 10 fold during the Loud Cry.  I believe we must get sprinklings of the Holy spirit of God right now and up to the Loud Cry if we expect to be a part of the pouring out of the latter rain.thumbup.gif

Actually you are giving reference to the first baptism in the mentioned scripture that you gave, which is not the third baptism.

third baptism will be persecution for Christ's sake and the final refining in the fires of persecution/affliction

Soon I saw the saints suffering great mental anguish. They seemed to be surrounded with the wicked inhabitants of earth. Every appearance was against them. Some began to fear that God had left them at last to perish by the hand of the wicked. But if their eyes could have been opened, they would have seen themselves surrounded by angels of God. Next came the multitude of the angry wicked, and next a mass of evil angels, hurrying on the wicked to slay the saints. But as they would attempt to approach them, they would first have to pass this company of mighty, holy angels, which was impossible. The angels of God were causing them to recede, and also causing the evil angels who were pressing around them, to fall back. It was an hour of terrible, fearful agony to the saints. They cried day and night unto God for deliverance. To outward appearance, there was no possibility of their escape. The wicked had already commenced their triumphing, and were crying out, Why don't your God deliver you out of our hands? Why don't you go up, and save your lives? The saints heeded them not. They were wrestling with God like Jacob. The angels longed to deliver them; but they must wait a little longer, and drink of the cup, and be baptized with the baptism. The angels, faithful to their trust, kept their watch. The time had about come when God was to manifest his mighty power, and gloriously deliver them. God would not suffer his name to be reproached among the heathen. For his name's glory he would deliver every one of those who had patiently waited for him, and whose names were written in the book.  {1SG 202.1} {GC 1858}
