I have seen an angel standing with scales in his hands, weighing the thoughts and interest of the people of God, especially the young. In one scale were the thoughts and interest tending Heavenward; in the other were the thoughts and interest tending to earth. And in this scale were thrown all the reading of story-books, thoughts of dress and show, vanity, pride, etc. Oh, what a solemn moment! the angels of God standing with scales, weighing the thoughts of His professed children,those who claim to be dead to the world and alive to God. The scale filled with thoughts of earth, vanity, and pride quickly went down, notwithstanding weight after weight rolled from the scale. The one with the thoughts and interest tending to Heaven went quickly up as the other went down, and oh, how light it was! I can relate this as I saw it, but never can I give the solemn and vivid impression stamped upon my mind, as I saw the angel with the scales weighing the thoughts and interest of the people of God. Said the angel, Can such enter Heaven? No, no, never. Tell them the hope they now possess is vain, and unless they speedily repent, and obtain salvation, they must perish.

A form of godliness will not save any. All must have a deep and living experience. This alone will save them in the time of trouble. Then their work will be tried of what sort it is; and if it is gold, silver, and precious stones, they will be hid as in the secret of the Lords pavilion. But if their work is wood, hay, and stubble, nothing can shield them from the fierceness of Jehovahs wrath.Testimonies, vol. 1, pp. 124. 125.

The robe of your character must be washed till it is spotless, in the fountain opened for all uncleanness.  Your moral worth will be weighed in the balances of the sanctuary, and if you are found wanting, you will be at an eternal loss.  All the coarseness, all the roughness, must be removed from your character before Jesus comes; for when He comes, the preparation for every soul is ended.  {3SM 155.3}

If you have not laid aside your envy, your jealousies, your hatred one against another, you cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  You would only carry the same disposition with you; but there will be nothing of this character in the world to come.  Nothing will exist there but love and joy and harmony.  Some will have brighter crowns than others, but there will be no jealous thoughts in any heart among the redeemed.  Each one will be perfectly satisfied, for all will be rewarded according to their work.  {3SM 155.4}

Let all that is beautiful in our earthly home remind us of the crystal river and green fields, the waving trees and the living fountains, the shining city and the white-robed singers, of our heavenly home that world of beauty which no artist can picture and no mortal tongue describe. Let your imagination picture the home of the saved, and remember that it will be more glorious than your brightest imagination can portray.  {Hvn 133.3}

Christ bids you bring all of heaven you can into your life.  Talk of the great reward that awaits the overcomer.  Set your face as a flint heavenward, saying, as you advance, Hear what the Lord has wrought for me.  Shall we not come up to the help of the Lord against the mighty?  Shall we not work with all the power that God has given us to oppose the work of Satan?  An eternal weight of glory awaits the overcomer.  If we gain heaven, we gain everything.  Shall we not put away sin, and let Christ abide in our hearts by faith?  Not until we have the mind of Christ shall we be like him, and see him as he is.   When the warfare is ended, and we have gained the crown of immortality, the harp of God, the palm branch of victory, and wear the white robe of Christ's righteousness, we shall say, Heaven is cheap enough.   {YI, January 11, 1900 par. 1}

In the Bible the inheritance of the saved is called a country. There the heavenly Shepherd leads His flock to fountains of living waters. The tree of life yields its fruit every month, and the leaves of the tree are for the service of the nations. There are ever-flowing streams, clear as crystal, and beside them waving trees cast their shadows upon the paths prepared for the ransomed of the Lord. There the widespreading plains swell into hills of beauty, and the mountains of God rear their lofty summits. On those peaceful plains, beside those living streams, Gods people, so long pilgrims and wanderers, shall find a home.     My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. Isaiah 32:18. Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise. Isaiah 60:18. They shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: ... mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. Isaiah 65:21, 22.      There, the wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. Isaiah 35:1. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree. Isaiah 55:13. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; ... and a little child shall lead them. Isaiah 11:6. FLB 368

When Stephen was called upon to suffer for Christ's sake, he did not waver.  He read his fate in the cruel faces of his persecutors, and he did not hesitate to give to them the last message which he was to bear to men.  He looked up and said, "I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God."  All heaven was interested in this case.  Jesus, rising from the throne of his Father, was leaning over, looking upon the face of his servant, and imparting to his countenance the beams of his own glory, and men were astonished as they saw Stephen's face lighted up as if it had been the face of an angel.  The glory of God shone upon him, and while he was beholding the face of his Lord, the enemies of Christ stoned him to death.  Would we not think that a hard death to die?  But the fear of death was gone, and his last breath was spent in petitioning the Lord to forgive his persecutors.  {RH, April 29, 1890 par. 7}

Crown for Every Saint, Dec. 12  Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12.

I saw a very great number of angels bring from the city glorious crowns--a crown for every saint, with his name written thereon. As Jesus called for the crowns, angels presented them to Him, and with His own right hand the lovely Jesus placed the crowns on the heads of the saints. In the same manner the angels brought the harps, and Jesus presented them also to the saints. The commanding angels first struck the note, and then every voice was raised in grateful, happy praise, and every hand skillfully swept over the strings of the harp, sending forth melodious music in rich and perfect strains....

Within the city there was everything to feast the eye. Rich glory they beheld everywhere. Then Jesus looked upon His redeemed saints; their countenances were radiant with glory; and as He fixed His loving eyes upon them, He said, with His rich, musical voice, " I behold the travail of My soul, and am satisfied. This rich glory is yours to enjoy eternally. Your sorrows are ended. There shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. " ... FLB 352.3

Heaven is not a vapor.  It is a place.  Christ has gone to prepare mansions for those who love Him, those who, in obedience to His commands, come out from the world, and are separate.  The principles of heaven must be brought into our experience, that we may be distinguished for the world.  There must be a marked contrast between us and the world; for we are God's denominated people ...  {4MR 60.2}

I then saw Jesus leading His people to the tree of life.... Upon the tree of life was most beautiful fruit, of which the saints could partake freely, in the city was a most glorious throne, from which proceeded a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal. On each side of this river was the tree of life, and on the banks of the river were other beautiful trees bearing fruit....     Language is altogether too feeble to attempt a description of heaven. As the scene rises before me, I am lost in amazement. Carried away with the surpassing splendor and excellent glory, I lay down the pen, and exclaim, Oh, what love! what wondrous love! The most exalted language fails to describe the glory of heaven or the matchless depths of a Saviours love. FLB 352.5

Heaven will be cheap enough, if we obtain it through suffering.  We must deny self all along the way, die to self daily, let Jesus alone appear, and keep His glory continually in view.  I saw that those who of late have embraced the truth would have to know what it is to suffer for Christ's sake, that they would have trials to pass through that would be keen and cutting, in order that they may be purified and fitted through suffering to receive the seal of the living God, pass through the time of trouble, see the King in His beauty, and dwell in the presence of God and of pure, holy angels.  {EW 67.1}

I was pointed to the glory of heaven, to the treasure laid up for the faithful. Everything was lovely and glorious. The angels would sing a lovely song, then they would cease singing and take their crowns from their heads and cast them glittering at the feet of the lovely Jesus, and with melodious voices cry, Glory, Alleluia!

I joined with them in their songs of praise and honor to the Lamb, and every time I opened my mouth to praise Him, I felt an unutterable sense of the glory that surrounded me. It was a far more, an exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Said the angel, The little remnant who love God and keep His commandments and are faithful to the end will enjoy this glory and ever be in the presence of Jesus and sing with the holy angels.

Then my eyes were taken from the glory, and I was pointed to the remnant on the earth. The angel said to them, ... Get ready, get ready, get ready. Ye must have a greater preparation than ye now have, for the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it. Sacrifice all to God. Lay all upon His altarself, property, and all, a living sacrifice. It will take all to enter glory. Lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where no thief can approach or rust corrupt. Ye must be partakers of Christs sufferings here if ye would be partakers with Him of His glory hereafter.     ...  FLB 359.4

We must bring heaven into our hearts, into the daily life.  Christ is an all-powerful helper, and those who follow Him will not walk in darkness, but will understand the thoughts of heaven.  They will understand the voice of the true Shepherd, and will walk in obedience.  {5MR 256.2}

Two Worlds Compared, The glory of the eternal world has been opened before me. I want to tell you that heaven is worth winning. It should be the aim of your life to fit yourself for association with the redeemed, with holy angels, and with Jesus, the world's Redeemer. If we could have but one view of the celestial city, we would never wish to dwell on earth again.

There are beautiful landscapes on earth, and I enjoy all these prospects of loveliness in nature. I associate them with the Creator. But I know that if I love God, and keep His commandments, there is a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory reserved in heaven for me.

There, when the veil that darkens our vision shall be removed, and our eyes shall behold that world of beauty of which we now catch glimpses through the microscope; when we look on the glories of the heavens, now scanned afar through the telescope; when, the blight of sin removed, the whole earth shall appear in "the beauty of the Lord our God," what a field will be open to our study!

There the student of science may read the records of creation and discern no reminders of the law of evil. He may listen to the music of nature's voices and detect no note of wailing or undertone of "sorrow. In all created things he may trace one handwriting--in the vast universe behold "God's name writ large," and not in earth or sea or sky one sign of ill remaining.

 Let your imagination picture the home of the saved, and remember that it will be more glorious than your brightest imagination can portray. In the varied gifts of God in nature we see but the faintest gleaming of His glory.    Human language is inadequate to describe the reward of the righteous. It will be known only to those who behold it. No finite mind can comprehend the glory of the Paradise of God.    (FLB 364.5, dec. 24)

Paul had a view of heaven, and in discoursing on the glories there, the very best thing he could do was to not try to describe them.  He tells us that eye had not seen nor ear heard, neither hath it entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for those that love Him.  So you may put your imagination to the stretch, you may try to the very best of your abilities to take in and consider the eternal weight of glory, and yet your finite senses, faint and weary with the effort, cannot grasp it, for there is an infinity beyond.  It takes all of eternity to unfold the glories and bring out the precious treasures of the Word of God.  {1SAT 73.1}

(Isaiah)  I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Isaiah 6:1. AG 72.1   When God was about to send Isaiah with a message to His people, He first permitted the prophet to look in vision into the holy of holies within the sanctuary. Suddenly the gate and the inner veil of the temple seemed to be uplifted or withdrawn, and he was permitted to gaze within, upon the holy of holies, where even the prophets feet might not enter. There rose before him a vision of Jehovah sitting upon a throne high and lifted up, while the train of His glory filled the temple. Around the throne were seraphim, as guards about the great King, and they reflected the glory that surrounded them. As their songs of praise resounded in deep notes of adoration, the pillars of the gate trembled, as if shaken by an earthquake. With lips unpolluted by sin, these angels poured forth the praises of God. Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts, they cried: the whole earth is full of his glory (Isaiah 6:3).     The seraphim around the throne are so filled with reverential awe as they behold the glory of God, that they do not for an instant look upon themselves with admiration. Their praise is for the Lord of hosts. As they look into the future, when the whole earth shall be filled with His glory, the triumphant song is echoed from one to another in melodious chant, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts. They are fully satisfied to glorify God; abiding in His presence, beneath His smile of approbation, they wish for nothing more. AG 72.3

The people of God should not fill their minds with theories which Christ never taught when enshrouded in the pillar of cloud or when as a man among men He taught in the streets and synagogues of Judea.  There is a rich abundance of precious truths in God's Word -- truths which are of vital consequence to the people of God, truths which will fill the mind with fragrant thoughts of heavenly things and provide a solid foundation for character building.  Discard fables and vain imaginings.  Present only the words, "It is written."  Let Jesus take possession of mind and heart.  Let those who teach be sure that the Word of Christ dwells in them richly.  Let them instruct church members and students in the lessons of the Saviour.  {20MR 339.1}

Said the apostle Paul, "Our conversation is in Heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour."  While others are dwarfing the intellect, hardening the heart, and robbing their Maker by devoting themselves to the service of the world, the true Christian is lifting his soul above the follies and vanities of earth, seeking God for pardon, peace, and righteousness; for glory, immortality, and eternal life.  And he seeks not in vain.  His fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ.  Through this close intercourse with God, the soul becomes transformed.  By beholding we are changed into the divine image, while those who seek only to gratify the desires of the unconsecrated heart, will float with the current of worldliness and fashion.  They talk of what they love the most, give study and thought to that, until by beholding they are changed to the same image.  Their conformity to worldly customs holds them in captivity to Satan, the god of this world.  "His servants ye are to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey."  {RH, December 6, 1881 par. 15}
