According to the Associated Press, an evangelical, 78-year old pastor in northern Ireland is being prosecuted for a sermon from the pulpit where he said Islam is "heathen" and "satanic".

The sermon was streamed online, and 78-year-old McConnell has been charged with transmitting the message over an electronic communications network. Prosecutor David Russell told Belfast Magistrates' Court Monday that the case had "nothing to do with religion or freedom of expression."

While the prosecutor is obviously a hater of the Bible for bringing this ridiculous charge and then saying it has "nothing to do with religion or freedom of expression", the worrying thing is the actual means of why he is being charged.  It is because the message was transmitted "over an electronic communications network".  The implication is that if he wants to say that in his church, that is fine, but if he wants to use electronic means to spread that message, he is running afoul of the law.

It doesn't take much imagination to see where this could quickly lead if precedents are set.
