A BRIEF EXPOSITION OF THE SEVEN TRUMPETS

By W L Sims (1998 - Narrow Way Publishers)

 The following brief Bible explanation of the prophecy of the seven trumpets, is entered upon with much diffidence and hesitation; For many able Bible scholars generations before my day and since my day, have given us their historical interpretation of these trumpets. Most all of them tell us that "Gibbons' History of Rome" is, the "key" that unlocks the meaning and application of this prophecy of Revelation, chapters eight and nine; many have accepted their views as true.

 I hold that "Scripture is the key to unlock Scripture" and that we should make the Bible its own expositor,." This is good, sound advice, and must hold good in the study and explanation of the seven trumpets.

 I tip my hat, and say all honor be to the noble pioneers, who blazed the trail for us in prophetic exposition; but it is folly to believe that these noble men of God saw all the light in their day, or that they never made any mistakes in their explanations of unfilled prophecies. Surely God has more light for us today than our forbears saw several generations ago.

 Holding to the affirmative, I will say very little about the historical views of others.

 "Read, hear, and keep" is our Saviour's program "for His servants" regarding the last book of the New Testament, Rev. 1:1-3. It is well to read, and hear others read this book named Revelation, but only those who understand and "keep" or obey its timely truths will reap its lasting benefits - the blessing of eternal life. But whether we can or cannot understand the deep and solemn truths that are hidden in this prophecy of the seven trumpets; they are there for us just the same. As ministers and Bible teachers it is our duty to pray, study and toil on until we can understand it, and then uncover to others its real meaning, at least in its main issues if not in every detail.

 Reader, take your Bible, this is the only book we will need, and join me in a close up study of the seven trumpets. We will study these trumpet chapters, not in the light of what historians and Bible commentators have written about them, but in the light of what the Bible says about them.

 The opening verse of Rev. 8 introduces the event that will mark the opening of the seventh seal.  "Silence in heaven." WhenChrist leaves heaven accompanied by all the angels of heaven. He comes to receive His people; then there will be "silence in heaven until the angels and the redeemed of all ages return with Christ to heaven Matt25:31; John 14:1-3.

 The seventh seal will therefore be opened at the time of Christ's second coming.

 The prophet is next shown another scene:  "Seven angels standing before God and to them were given seven trumpets." Rev 8:2  But before they begin to sound their trumpets the intercessory work of Christ, our High Priest, is referred to. I quote:

 "And another, angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censor, and there was given -him much incense that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne, and the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand." Rev. 8:3.

 This scene represents the service that has been going on in the heavenly Sanctuary or temple ever since Christ ascended to heaven. Let us read on: "And the angel took the censer and filled it with fire off the altar and cast it into or upon the earth." First part of v5, margin. This-act  - of casting down the censer on the part of the angel representing Christ will mark the close of probation, Rev. 22:11, when Christ himself will lay clown the censer, take off His ,priestly robes and clothe himself with the garments of vengeance.

 Note carefully the next text:

"And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound." V. 6. Not until after the censer is cast down do the trumpet angels get ready to sound their trumpets. Therefore the trumpets, judgment or plagues, Rev. 9:20, do not begin to fall upon guilty man till after the close of probation. The events of the seven trumpets are therefore all in the future and none are in the past. These verses four to six contain the prophet's inspired introduction to the sounding of the seven trumpets. This setting if we believe what it says, is too plain to be misunderstood. From the beginning we accepted the traditional views of commentators, of men who never saw the light that God has made known to His remnant people "Gibbons' History of Rome" can have  no bearings whatever on the prophecy of the seven trumpets.

 "And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings, and an earthquake."( Last half of verse five.) All these events take place in connection with the second coming of Christ. This verse first points out the event that will mark the close of probation"-the casting down of the censer," and at once announces what will happen at the, time when the seventh trumpet begins to sound.

 At this point let us note a similar introduction to the pouring out of the seven last plagues. "And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power; and no man (not even the man Christ Jesus) was able to enter into the temple till the seven last plagues were fulfilled." Rev. 15:8. This scene preceded the pouring out of the seven last plagues as described in the next chapter, Chapter 16.

 There will be no one in the heavenly temple offering incense and pleading for guilty man while the seven last plagues are being poured out upon the wicked world. This text in Rev. 15:8 corresponds with the ones in Rev. 8:4-5. Both references when considered in the light of these two prophecies, make it plain that the trumpet plagues, like the seven last plagues, will not inflict their punishment until after the close of probation.

 There are many striking points of similarity given us in the two prophecies. This will become more and more evident as we proceed with this study. This setting of this trumpet prophecy may be news to my readers, but please reserve judgment till we have compared the effects of what will happen under the sounding of the seven trumpets with the effects of the seven last plagues and see how they tally.

THE FIRST TRUMPET

The trumpet in Old Testament times was used to noise abroad, a call to worship, an alarm of danger, anything done or coming to pass, an act, event or circumstance." The prophecy of the seven trumpets, like the prophecy of the seven last plagues are designed of God to noise abroad before hand, the impending judgments that God will visit upon the incorrigible wicked after the close of probation.

"The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth; and the third part of trees was burned up and all green grass was burnt up." Rev. 8:7.

 This trumpet plague, when it sounds, will affect a third part of trees, and all green grass. They will be burned up. This trumpet affects vegetation. "Hail and fire," two great extremes, both forces of nature, will be employed by God to destroy food for man and beasts. If these trumpet judgments, like the seven last plagues, were all universal, then none of the wicked would be left alive to see Christ come in the clouds with power and great glory. Matt. 24:33; Rev. 6:15-17.  "Hail and fire mingled with blood" was the way it was revealed to the prophet in vision. "Blood" represents the lives of both man and  beasts.

 We are told in Rev. 7:1-3 that when the four angels let loose of the. four winds, then destruction will be visited upon earth, sea and trees. It is after the close of probation, after the saints are numbered and sealed that the four angels let loose of the four winds; and then destruction will be visited upon trees. The prophet Joel, referring to what will happen to trees and vegetation when the great day of the Lord's vengeance is at hand says: "Alas for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. Is not the meat (food) cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? The seed is rotten under the clods, the gardens are laid low, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered. How do the beasts groan, the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. O Lord to thee will I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. The beasts of the field cry also unto thee; for the rivers of the waters are dried up and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness." Joel1:15-20.

 Evidently all this is just what will happen when the first trumpet sounds. The effects of this trumpet may be repeated in some other part of the world at the time of the fourth plague. Rev. 16:8-9. Terrible times await this wicked world when the trumpet angels sound their trumpets. This first trumpet may be sounded before the first plague is poured out..

 But thanks be to our God for the assurances of His precious promises that none of the numbered and sealed saints will suffer any of these judgment plagues in that awful day. Ps. 46, and 91.

SECOND TRUMPET-- SECOND PLAGUE

"And the second trumpet sounded and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea; and the third part of the sea became as blood; and the third part of the sea became blood; and the third part of the creatures which were in the sea and had life died, and the third part of the ships were destroyed." Rev. 8:8-9.

 This trumpet affects the sea and the creatures living in the sea. We read also that when the second plague is poured out, it too will affect the sea in the same manner and with the same results, "every living soul died in the sea." Rev. 16:3. The sea, not seas, may be the Mediterranean Sea. The third part of the ships in that part of this sea will then be destroyed.

THIRD TRUMPET--THIRD PLAGUE

 "And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountain of waters, and the name of the star was Wormwood; and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many died of the waters because they were made bitter." Rev. 8:1011.

 This trumpet will have to do with the rivers and fountains of waters. And its results on both will be similar. The third plague will also have to do with the rivers and fountains of waters. They become as the blood of a dead man - very poisonous. The third plague will be poured out where prophets and saints have been slain; while the third trumpet may affect other parts of the world.

FOURTH TRUMPET-- FOURTH PLAGUE

 "And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it and the night likewise.

 "And I beheld and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpets of the three angels which are yet to sound." Rev. 8:12, 13.

 These verses first tell us that when the fourth trumpet sounds then one third of the day and one third of the night will be supernaturally darkened. I believe this text means just what it says. For about eight hours out of the twenty-four-hour day physical darkness will be felt over one third of the earth's surface, while under the fourth plague the sun will scorch men with great heat. Rev. 16:8, 9. The fourth trumpet will no doubt affect one part of the earth, while the fourth plague will scorch men in some other part.

 We have now seen that during the first four trumpets, God will, at His own will, summon the forces of nature to punish guilty man. V. The earth, sea, fire, hail, trees, grass, rivers, fountains, sun, moon and stars. There is no symbolic meaning attached to any of them; neither is there any natural cause that shows that these plagues will gradually follow one another. Each of them suddenly and miraculously comes to pass, a direct act of God; so will it be with the pouring out of the second, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh plagues. These forces of nature upon which man is dependent for his very existence are stripped of one third of their efficiency. The severity of the trumpet judgment, like the severity of the seven last plagues, increases as one follows the other.

 In Rev. 8:13 we have a loud voice - a threefold woe message, proclaimed to the inhabitants of the earth. The appearance of this angel, - "flying through the midst of heaven" - is similar to the appearance of the angel of Rev. 14:6, 7.

 No doubt the people of God - "the numbered and sealed saints," who have escaped the trumpet plagues and the seven last plagues will be appealed to by the inhabitants of earth (who have suffered more or less under the outpouring of these plagues) to know when these plagues will cease. The woe messages they give in answer to this inquiry will impress the seriousness and severity of the three more to follow. Let the remnant of the church of God now arise and noise abroad to every nation, kindred, tongue and people the alarm of danger now awaiting the inhabitants of earth. Let us give them God's preparatory message, (Rev. 14:6-12)  tell the world what to do to escape the awful judgment foretold in the eighth, ninth and sixteenth chapters of Revelation.

THE FIFTH TRUMPET AND THE FIFTH PLAGUE

"And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit."

"And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads."

"And to them (the locusts) it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man."

"And in those days (the time of the fifth trumpet) shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them."

"And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men."

"And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions."

"And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle."

"And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

"And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. Rev.9:1-11. (Apollyon means destroyer, as noted in marginal ref.)

 Every reader of the book of Revelation realizes that many of its truths are given us in highly figurative, parabolic and symbolic language. Some of it is quite easily understood but other descriptions are so complex, unearthly and portentous as to daze, perplex and overwhelm the reader. This is especially true of the ninth chapter. But whether we can or cannot readily understand the deep and solemn truth of the chapter. They are there for us to search out, just the same. Let us prayerfully consider what it says.

 The punishment to be inflicted upon men at the sounding of this trumpet was represented to the prophet as being accomplished by a star that he saw fall from heaven. This star he also terms a king, whose name in the Greek tongue is called "Destroyer." The only ruling king in the world at the time of this trumpet, who originally did fall from heaven is no other than the devil himself - the great Destroyer His evil angels that assist him in deceiving, hurting and destroying man is here represented by an army of locusts. The description of these locusts is complex, unearthly and portentous. Because the devil, his angels, and these agents so often change their ways of deceiving and destroying man, God changes His ways of representing them.

 Satan with this army of evil angels, represented by locusts, afflicts great physical suffering. Both the fifth trumpet and the fifth plague are said to be especially painful. Rev. 16:10. The fifth plague is poured out upon the seat of the beast (Rome) and men living in Rome and vicinity will gnaw their tongues for pain. They are still at that time suffering the effects of the first plague - "A noisome and grievous sore."

 Twice, we are told that the suffering under the fifth trumpet will last five months. Time, when mentioned in connection with powers that will outlive the natural life of the symbol used to represent them, is always reckoned on the basis of a literal day to represent a literal year. This is the Bible rule for interpreting symbolic time. But in the prophecy of the seven trumpets no powers are introduced that call for the application of the day for a year interpretation. Hence I understand that the five months referred to mean just what it says - five literal months. While the prophet is exact in saying that this trumpet plague will last five months, that it will begin and end at a certain time, yet I see no date given for the beginning of this period.

 The fifth trumpet, as we have seen, brings a fearful scourge upon the earth. It will affect all men EXCEPT those who have the seal of God in their foreheads. This exemption at once connects our thoughts with the sealing message of Rev. 7:1-3. Here we again see that the judgements of the fifth trumpet will follow, not precede, the sealing message of Rev. 7. But this sealing message and the message of the third angel of Rev. 14:9-14 will constitute God's last message of salvation. After the sealing message, after the third angel's message as been proclaimed to the world, then probation is closed. Rev. 22:11. And the unmixed wrath of God threatened in the third angel's message and filled up in the seven trumpet plagues, and the seven last plagues, will be poured out upon the lost wicked. But thanks be to God for the assurance that all who have received the "seal of God in their foreheads" will not be hurt or killed under the fifth trumpet; while all who have rejected the seal of God (refused to obey God's commandments, the Sabbath included) and have received the mark of the beast, (the counterfeit sabbath) are suffering great torment at the time of the sounding of the fifth trumpet.

Under the first five trumpets nothing is said about any wars or battles being fought between nations. Such a history would be in keeping with the prophecies of Daniel. He was a great statesmanprophet and no one was better- fitted to give us the history of the world from his day to the second coming of Christ and beyond than he was. Four times his prophecies trace the history of the world. See Daniel chapters 2, 7, 8, and 11. But the author of the book Revelation was a gospel-prophet; both he and his Master Teacher saw on every hand the political corruption, graft, injustice, and grinding cruelty exercised by Rome over her conquered subjects; but they never once dabbled in politics or the affairs of state; they let all such matters alone.

Is it consistent then to believe and teach that the Lord Jesus, in revealing the future history of the church and the experiences of His people, would have had John in his old age to devote two whole chapters in the book Revelation to strife, war, banditry and bloodshed that would be employed by barbarians to overthrow the Roman Empire, or the bloody career of Ottoman, the Turks or the Mohammedans? No, such a history would not be in keeping with the theme and scope of any part of the book Revelation.

SIXTH TRUMPET-- SIXTH PLAGUE

"And the sixth angel sounded and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar, which is before God saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet; Loose the four angels which are bound in or at the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed which were prepared at an hour, a day, and a month, and a year; for to slay the third part of men and the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand and I heard the number of them. And thus I saw these horses in the vision, and them that sat on them having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth and brimstone; and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouth issued fire, smoke and brimstone; By these three were the third part of men killed; .... For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails; for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see nor hear, nor walk; neither repented they (their probation had already closed) of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts." Rev. 9:13-21, margin.

 The language of this trumpet is very similar to the language of the fifth trumpet. The Euphrates river is mentioned in connection with the sixth trumpet and also in connection with the sixth plague. Rev. 16:12. The first thing that will happen when the sixth trumpet sounds, will be the loosening of four angels, which were bound at the great river Euphrates. These four angels, like the four angels of Rev. 7, may also represent the four points of the compass. The effects of this trumpet may be world wide. When the four angels let loose, then an army of two hundred million horsemen go forth accompanied by fire, smoke and brimstone to slay a third part of men. This was the way it was shown to the prophet in vision.

 When the waters of the Euphrates river were dried up under the sixth plague, then the spirits of devils cross over (figuratively speaking) and go forth to the kings of the earth and of the whole world to unite them with Satan in preparation for the battle of God Almighty or Armageddon. The two hundred million horsemen of the sixth trumpet and the spirits of devils under the sixth plague represent the same evil forces - . Satan's wicked angels. These same agencies were represented by the great army of locusts under  the fifth trumpet.

 The loosening of the four angels under the sixth trumpet and the drying up of the waters of the Euphrates river under the sixth plague refer to similar events. The act of letting loose of the four angels shows that before they were let loose they were held in restraint on the east side of the river Euphrates, and not till the waters of this river were dried up at the time of the sixth plague did they get to go forth on their mission to the kings of the whole world.

 God's people, from the days of Abraham down to the days of John, viewed the river Euphrates as the border line, the dividing line between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan in this world Gen. 15:18-21; Joshua 1:2-4. Jerusalem was termed the city of the great King. It was His dwelling place and the headquarters of His worship in the earth. They also believed that the devil and his evil spirits - or angels, dwelt on the east side of this river. They believed that "the kings of the east," east of this river, were all in a special sense united with Satan as his allies in ruling the world outside the land of Israel. These kings were always Israel's greatest enemies; they feared them more than any other nations. From east of this river carne the kings of Assyria, Babylon, Media-Persia and the Grecian army - and invaded Palestine and waged war against Israel.

What does the drying up of a river or sea signify in the Scriptures? In searching for the answer to this question I have been much interested in studying the following texts: Isa. 44:27; 50:2; Zech. 10:10-12; Ps. 74:12-15; Nahum 1:4; Joshua 2:10; 3:10; 13:17; 4:23; 5:1 ; 2Kings 2:8; and Heb.11:29. There is a striking similarity in all of these texts, but the one outstanding lesson in all of them is that it is God himself, who miraculously dries up the waters of a river or sea. It is never done by a nation or nations against another nation through whose territory the river flows.

 When God in olden times, and in a miraculous manner, dried up the waters of a sea or river He did it just before He destroyed the enemies of His people, who were bent upon destroying His people; and at the same time, He wrought a glorious deliverance for His helpless but trusting saints. So I understand it will be shortly after the waters of the river Euphrates will be, figuratively speaking, dried up. Then Satan's program to completely wreck the whole world will go into high gear.

 The prophet John beheld in vision, what the whole world will see and realize, at the time of the sixth trumpet and the sixth plague. That the dividing line between the forces of God and the forces of evil have been completely eliminated, that every barrier has been completely broken down; then Satan and his wicked angels, at least two hundred million of them, will go forth without let or hindrance, to prepare all who do not have the seal of God in their foreheads, to unite with him in his last conflict against the government of heaven, against the Ruler of the universe - the battle of God Almighty - Armageddon. The uniting of the kings of earth preparatory to Armageddon takes place under the sixth plague and the sixth trumpet.

 At the close of the fifth trumpet the four angels of the sixth trumpet will be let loose, and will begin immediately "at that very hour, day, month, and year, to slay the third part of men." Rev. 9:15, margin. The very language of this text, when viewed in the light of the setting of these two trumpets and compared with the fifth and sixth plagues, emphasizes the certainty of these judgements; yet no set time is made known. Though terrible as these six trumpets are, yet some will live through them. These are the "rest of the men" referred to in the last two verses of Rev. 9. If we would know the fate of these men read Rev. 19:21.

It has occurred to some that the author of Great Controversy endorses Dr. Josiah Litch's view of the time part of the fifth and sixth trumpets. See GC pp. 334, 335. The words, "The event exactly fulfilled the prediction made" are not the words of the author of this book, but are the words of Josiah Litch himself, and quoted from the "Signs of the Times and Expositor of Prophecy" Aug. 1, 1840. See foot note at bottom of page 335. This reference to Josiah Litch's position, and several other quotations and footnotes found in this chapter of Great Controversy were inserted into this chapter by the publishing committee, when they revised this edition of Great Controversy  to make it a subscription book. None of these references are found in any of the previous editions of this book. We know that the author never intended that Josiah Litch's view would be substituted to take the place of what the Bible says.

 Some years ago I was present at a Bible study held in Los Angeles, and heard one of our pioneer ministers state in the presence of others, "That he was present when Elder W .C. White handed his mother a copy of this revised edition of GC. After examining the book she said to her son: `Who gave these brethren authority to make these changes in this book? They have left out some things I wrote and have inserted some things I did not write."'

THE SEVENTH TRUMPET--THE SEVENTH PLAGUE

"But in the days of the voice of the seventh trumpet, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God shall be finished as he hath declared to his servants the prophets." Rev. 10:7.

 "And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven saying: "The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and he shall reign forever and forever." Rev. 11:15.

 In Rev. 10:7 we are told that when the seventh trumpet begins to sound, then the mystery of God will be finished. The mystery of God is the work of redemption. The work of redemption will be finished as far as the living wicked and the living righteous are concerned when the seventh trumpet begins to sound.

 Likewise we are told that when the seventh plague is poured out, a voice from heaven announces "it is done." Rev. 16:17.

 What will happen at the beginning of the seventh trumpet will also happen at the time of the seventh plague. With the introduction of the trumpet prophecy we were told that there were voices, and thunderings and lightnings, and an earthquake. (Rev 8:5.)   These convulsions of nature will all take place in connection with the second coming of Christ when the seventh trumpet begins to sound. The opening of the seventh seal, the sounding of the seventh trumpet, and the pouring out of the seventh plague all meet their fulfillment at the same time, the second coming of Christ. The sounding of the seventh trumpet will mean the utter destruction of all the living wicked, and the translation of all the living righteous.

 It is when these convulsions of nature take place under the seventh trumpet and the seventh plague, that the battle of Armageddon takes place. PP p. 509. This battle from its beginning to its end is not a military battle fought between nations. It is a supernatural battle. Two supernatural generals lead their supernatural armies against one another.

 Christ, heaven's glorious Commander in Chief, is described in Rev. 19:11-16 as coming forth on a white horse leading the armies of heaven, the angelic host, to give battle to Satan and his army of evil angels and the kings of earth and their armies who are united with him.

 Prior to this battle Satan will be permitted to personally appear in different parts of the earth as an angel of dazzling brightness. The battle of Armageddon cannot and will not take place until this great general arrives to personally take command of his army and lead them to unite with him in the terrible conflict - Armageddon, also termed the battle of God Almighty and fought in the great day of God Almighty.

 Christ, and His supernatural armies, with the weapons of His indignation - forces of nature, hail bombs weighing 57 pounds and driven with a mighty wind, win another glorious victory over Satan and his army. While Satan and his army of evil angels suffer a most crushing defeat, the wicked of earth will all be slain in this battle and by the brightness of Christ's coming.

 At the close of this Armageddon battle Satan and his army of evil angels are captured and imprisoned in the bottomless pit and placed in solitary confinement, under chains of everlasting darkness for one thousand years. At the close of this period, the wicked dead are all raised to life again.

 Then Satan is released from his dark prison and again goes forth to again deceive his wicked subjects of all ages to get them to unite with him in another battle against the Sovereign of the universe. He sets his army (then greater than all the combined armies of earth since war first began) in battle array against God, his angels, the city of New Jerusalem, and the redeemed of all ages. Then God rains fire down upon him and all his armies, they are all devoured, burned up, root and branch.

 This battle, termed the battle of Gog and Magog - Satan and his host, will bring to an eternal end the awful tragedy of sin and sinners. The fire that then destroys the wicked of earth will also melt and purify the earth. Then God will make a new earth, and the territory of the kingdoms of earth will actually and in fact become the territory of the kingdom of one Lord and "He shall reign forever and forever" in the new earth. Rev. 11:15.

 I am aware that my view of the prophecy of the seven trumpets differs materially from the historical views of others; but I hope and pray that these texts and comments may have their share of attention - a careful and an unprejudiced study by all who may chance to receive this little tract.

Reader, I must now leave the subject with you. I have tried to prove my position with divine authority. How well I have succeeded I will leave with you to decide.

 "Whatever is built upon the authority of man will be overthrown; but that which is founded upon the rock of Gods immutable word shall stand forever." "Whatever is built upon the authority of man will be overthrown; but that which is founded upon the rock of God's immutable word shall stand forever." (Sons and Daughters of God 38.)

 As I place this track in your hand, I commend to you this good counsel:

"You should say, If God has anything for me, I want it. If God has given evidence from His word to this or that brother that a certain thing is truth, He will give it to me. I can find that evidence if I search the Scriptures with constant prayer, and I can know that I do know what is truth. (RH, March 25, 1890.)

 "The Bible must not be interpreted to suit the ideas of men, however long they may have held their ideas to be true. We are not  to accept the opinion of commentators AS THE VOICE OF God; they were erring mortals like ourselves." (TM 106.)

Had a hard time posting these as the site would not accept some of the posts... maybe because I tried to correct some things...

One comment here where I disagree a little bit with the Sims study...

the trumpets are not universal but the 7 last plagues are universal according to the bible and notice that the bible refers to the trumpets as plagues... these are terrible things that will come upon the earth that have never happened before

"   When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. Isaiah 41:17. {FLB 340.1}

     When Christ ceases His intercession in the sanctuary, the unmingled wrath threatened against those who worship the beast and his image and receive his mark, will be poured out. The plagues upon Egypt when God was about to deliver Israel, were similar in character to those more terrible and extensive judgments which are to fall upon the world just before the final deliverance of God's people. Says the revelator, in describing those terrific scourges: "There fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image." The sea "became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea." And "the rivers and fountains of waters . . . became blood." Revelation 16:2-4. Terrible as these inflictions are, God's justice stands fully vindicated. . . .  {FLB 340.2}

     These plagues are not universal, or the inhabitants of the earth would be wholly cut off. Yet they will be the most awful scourges that have ever been known to mortals. All the judgments upon men, prior to the close of probation, have been mingled with mercy. The pleading blood of Christ has shielded the sinner from receiving the full measure of his guilt; but in the final judgment, wrath is poured out unmixed with mercy.  {FLB 340.3}

     It is impossible to give any idea of the experience of the people of God who will be alive on the earth when past woes and celestial glory will be blended. They will walk in the light proceeding from the throne of God. By the means of the angels there will be constant communication between heaven and earth.  {FLB 340.4}

     The people of God will not be free from suffering; but . . . they will not be left to perish. . . . While the wicked are dying from hunger and pestilence, angels will shield the righteous, and supply their wants. To him that "walketh righteously" is the promise, "Bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure." Isaiah 33:16.  {FLB 340.5}    "

"  In the plague that follows, power is given to the sun to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat. [Revelation 16:2-6, 8, 9.] The prophets thus describe the condition of the earth at this fearful time: The land mourneth;. . . because the harvest of the field is perished. All the trees of the field are withered; because joy is withered away from the sons of men. The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate. How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture. . . . The rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness. The songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God; there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence. [Joel 1:10-12, 17-20; Amos 8:3.]  {GC88 628.1}

     These plagues are not universal, or the inhabitants of the earth would be wholly cut off. Yet they will be the most awful scourges that have ever been known to mortals. All the judgments upon men, prior to the close of probation, have been mingled with mercy. The pleading blood of Christ has shielded the sinner from receiving the full measure of his guilt; but in the final Judgment, wrath is poured out unmixed with mercy.  {GC88 628.2}"  {GC 628.2} " {LDE 246.1} "

"These plagues are not universal, or the inhabitants of the earth would be wholly cut off. Yet they will be the most awful scourges that have ever been known to mortals. All the judgments upon men, prior to the close of probation, have been mingled with mercy. The pleading blood of Christ has shielded the sinner from receiving the full measure of his guilt; but in the final judgment, wrath is poured out unmixed with mercy.  {Mar 267.4}

     The bolts of God's wrath are soon to fall, and when He shall begin to punish the transgressors, there will be no period of respite until the end. The storm of God's wrath is gathering, and those only will stand who are sanctified through the truth in the love of God. They shall be hid with Christ in God till the desolation shall be overpast.  {Mar 267.5}

"These plagues are not universal, or the inhabitants of the earth would be wholly cut off. Yet they will be the most awful scourges that have ever been known to mortals. All the judgments upon men, prior to the close of probation, have been mingled with mercy. The pleading blood of Christ has shielded the sinner from receiving the full measure of his guilt; but in the final judgment, wrath is poured out unmixed with mercy. . . .  {RC 372.3}

     The people of God will not be free from suffering; but while persecuted and distressed, while they endure privation and suffer for want of food, they will not be left to perish. That God who cared for Elijah will not pass by one of His self-sacrificing children. He who numbers the hairs of their head will care for them, and in time of famine they shall be satisfied. While the wicked are dying from hunger and pestilence, angels will shield the righteous and supply their wants. To him that "walketh righteously" is the promise; "Bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure" (Isaiah 33:15, 16). "When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them" (chap. 41:17).  {RC 372.4}

Ed the problem with that quote is that it goes against what the bible says about the 7 last plagues.  BUT it is in agreement with the plagues of the trumpets.....so it makes that true.

All the wicked of the earth will get the sores but the righteous will not.  Hope that is clear.

"When Christ ceases His intercession in the sanctuary, the unmingled wrath threatened against those who worship the beast and his image and receive his mark (Revelation 14:9, 10), will be poured out. The plagues upon Egypt when God was about to deliver Israel were similar in character to those more terrible and extensive judgments which are to fall upon the world just before the final deliverance of God's people. The sea "became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea." And "the rivers and fountains of waters . . . became blood." Terrible as these inflictions are, God's justice stands fully vindicated. The angel of God declares: "Thou art righteous, O Lord, . . . because Thou hast judged thus. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and Thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy." Revelation 16:2-6. By condemning the people of God to death, they have as truly incurred the guilt of their blood as if it had been shed by their hands. In like manner Christ declared the Jews of His time guilty of all the blood of holy men which had been shed since the days of Abel; for they possessed the same spirit and were seeking to do the same work with these murderers of the prophets.  {GC 627.3}

     In the plague that follows, power is given to the sun "to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat." Verses 8, 9. The prophets thus describe the condition of the earth at this fearful time: "The land mourneth; . . . because the harvest of the field is perished. . . . All the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men." "The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate. . . . The Seven Last Plagues

Revelation Ch 16

1 ¶  And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

2  And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

3  And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

4  And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

5  And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

6  For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

7  And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

8 ¶  And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

9  And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

10  And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

11  And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

12 ¶  And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

13  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

14  For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15  Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

16  And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

17 ¶  And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

18  And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

19  And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

20  And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

21  And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

These plagues are not universal

Plagues plural ='s all 7 of them

not just the sores

"Chapter XXXIX. - The Earth Desolated.

     I then beheld the earth.The wicked were dead, and their bodies were lying upon the face of the earth. The inhabitants of earth had suffered the wrath of God in the seven last plagues. They had gnawed their tongues for pain and had cursed God. The false shepherds were signal objects of Jehovah's wrath. Their eyes had consumed away in their holes, and their tongues in their mouths, while they stood upon their feet. After the saints were delivered by the voice of God, the rage of the wicked multitude was turned upon each other. The earth seemed to be deluged with blood, and dead bodies were from one end of the earth to the other.  {1SG 211.1}

     The earth was in a most desolate condition. Cities and villages, shaken down by the earthquake, lay in heaps. Mountains were moved out of their places, leaving large caverns. The sea had thrown out ragged rocks upon the earth, and rocks had been torn out of the earth, and were scattered all over its surface. The earth looked like a desolate wilderness. Large trees were rooted up, and were strewn over the land. Here is Satan's home, with his evil angels, through the 1000 years. Here they will be confined, and wander up and down over the broken surface of the earth, and see the effects of his rebellion against God's law. The effects of the curse which he has caused, he can enjoy through the 1000 years. Limited alone to the earth, he will have no privilege of ranging around to other planets, to tempt and annoy those who have not fallen. Satan suffers in this time extremely. Since his fall his evil traits have been in constant exercise. He is then deprived of his power, and left to reflect upon the part he has acted since his fall, and to look forward with trembling and terror to the dreadful future, when he must suffer for all the evil he has done, and be punished for all the sins he has caused to be committed.  {1SG 211.2}

It's not just the seven last plagues, there is 7 first, mixed with mercy and we get the message the 7 trumpets are plagues from this verse at the sixth trumpet,

Re 9:13 ¶ And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,

We are revealed this no doubt at the closing of the sixth Trumpet,

Re 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Good to hear, I do too.    I have been emailing pentecostal pastors in my area sending links to ADTV Walter Veith / Amazing Facts responses to Bishop Tony Palmer, and links to download reformation pdf's & the 9 EGW books & Edwin De Kock book on 666, some have bounced back as undeliverable, some mailboxes full, but it seems some got through.  Lots more I can not email to, they need snail mail - if the local church will chip in.

It is very clear there is no mercy in the seven last plagues.

 "The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul." "He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." Psalm 121:5-7; 91:3-10. {DD 44.3}

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
