and that God send him companions in suffering to strengthen him, that he converts too many guards and officals for the prison to keep him, and that he get local language materials grapevining throughout the whole prison.

This is war, though they have an army of one visible person, his fidelity atracts thousands of invisible soldiers and shakes the prison system.

Pastor Saeed's wife, Naghmeh, has not been to Iran since her husbands arrest, but she speaks to him and his family on the phone from her home in Boise. She recently told Fox News his family has reported he is missing from jail. The fact that his whereabouts are unknown to his family and attorney is cause for concern, Jordan Sekulow [of American Center for Law and Justice] told Fox News.

Naghmeh, the wife of U.S. Pastor Saeed Abedini, who is serving eight years in a deadly prison in Iran for his faith, broke down as she testified on Capitol Hill, saying she has no heart to tell their kids that daddy might never survive if the government fails to protect him.

"Saeed is a husband and amazing father," Naghmeh told a standing-room only crowd at the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the U.S. Congress on Friday. "The kids and I miss him terribly. Our kids hold onto the hope of seeing their daddy very soon," she said, struggling unsuccessfully to hold back her tears.

Pastor Abedini and Naghmeh have two kids, Rebekka Grace, 6, and Jacob Cyrus, 4. "A day does not go by that they do not ask for their daddy. A day does not go by that they do not long for him. Most nights they cry themselves to sleep, wanting daddy home."

She said her husband has been beaten and suffers internal bleeding. "The truth is we do not know if we will ever speak to him or see him again. Every day is a death sentence for him," she said. "Many mornings they (the kids) wake up and start running around the house and in the yard. I ask them what they are doing and they say very disappointed 'it must have been a dream. We saw daddy was home and he was going to twirl us around.' I hold back my tears as I tell them that it was a dream."

Naghmeh added she still does not have "the heart to tell them that if we don't do anything, that daddy might never survive the horrific Evin prison. I do not have the heart to tell them of the 8 year sentence. I do hope we can work together to bring Saeed home and I will never have to tell my kids of the dire situation their father is in."

The State Department was invited to the hearing, but no official showed up. "The State Department was AWOL today absent without leave," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, which is representing Pastor Abedini's family in the U.S. "The State Department's no-show reflects a stunning lack of concern for an American wrongly imprisoned simply because of his Christian faith," said Sekulow, who also testified.

Naghmeh went on to say that her children could not understand why their father wasn't with them. "They kept saying, 'Does daddy not love us anymore?' ... And I had to tell them that he was in prison because he loved Jesus."

Saeed who grew up in Iran before converting to Christianity at the age of 20 traveled with his family back and forth between Iran and the U.S. several times in the past few years to meet his family and for Christian work. During one such trip in 2009, he was detained by Iranian officials and interrogated for his conversion. While he was released with a warning against engaging in any more underground church activities, he was once again arrested last July while working on a non-sectarian orphanage project.

In January, Iran's notorious Islamic Revolutionary Court convicted Pastor Abedini of "threatening the national security" by leading house churches years ago, and sentenced him to eight years in Tehran's deadly Evin Prison.

Despite her grief, Naghmeh said her husband holds to what he believes and "will not give in under any pressure from the Revolutionary Guards." Abedini, she said, is "standing up for religious freedom in a country that has no respect for human rights."

"Are we going to stand with him? Are we going to stand up as country and protect a citizen whose human right of religious freedom is so clearly violated?" she asked. "Americans are not all Christians; but every American regardless of their beliefs wants to be reassured and know that our government will take decisive action to protect us if someone uses force to try to make us abandon or change our beliefs."

Naghmeh said she was disappointed with the government. "I'm disappointed that our president and our State Department has not fully engaged in this case," she said. "I'm disappointed that this great country is not doing more to free my husband a U.S. citizen. Yes, we are both proud to be American citizens. And I expect more from our government."

She recalled when Saeed became a U.S. citizen in 2010, he said "it was one of the best days of his life and he was so proud to be an American. He was so excited, he announced it on his social media and soon after, a flag was sent to him from Senator Carl Levin's office for the occasion of Saeed becoming a citizen. He was so proud!"

Many nations, including the European Union, have highlighted Pastor Abedini's case and called for his release before the U.N. "Our government did not," said Sekulow. "With an opportunity to condemn Iran and demand his freedom on a global stage, the U.S. government never mentioned him at all ignored the plight of a U.S. citizen imprisoned in Iran," he said, of the UN Human Rights Council's meetings this month in Geneva that directly addressed the human rights crisis in Iran.

"I am hoping that we can bring Saeed home soon," said Naghmeh, also a U.S. citizen.

American Pastor Saeed Abedini, serving an eight-year prison sentence in Iran because of his Christian faith, is directly appealing to Irans newly elected President Hassan Rouhani for justice and freedom. In a letter written to the Iranian president, Pastor Saeed, a U.S. citizen, called on the new president to follow through on his pledge of moderation and pleads for compassion and justice so he can return to his wife and children in the United States.

Pastor Saeeds letter comes as the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which represents Pastor Saeeds wife and children in the U.S. and has been working to secure his freedom, launches a global letter-writing campaign urging President Rouhani to release Pastor Saeed.

The ACLJ has launched a new website at BeHeardProject.com a voice for the persecuted Church. To support Pastor Saeed, you can write a letter directly to the Iranian president and add your name to a petition containing the names of more than 620,000 people who have signed on already demanding the release of Pastor Saeed.

This is a critical time for this U.S. citizen who has been illegally imprisoned in one of Irans most dangerous prisons for nearly one year now, said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ. He writes about the abuse and internal bleeding he has suffered as a result of his year-long imprisonment. My wife and children as well as over a billion Christians in the world seek God's justice and then your consideration of this matter, Pastor Saeed wrote.

Please take immediate action in this regard and do not let me and a lot of people in my ward become the victims of the fire that extremists have made, those who have turned Iran into a vortex of crisis. Considering the fact that I came to Iran to serve the orphans, please do not let them make my children orphans and my wife without a guardian.

Over the last weekend my family celebrated my daughter's seventh birthday, the second birthday in a row my precious Rebekkah celebrated without her father, said Naghmeh Abedini, Pastor Saeeds wife. When asked what she wanted for her birthday, she said she just wanted her daddy home. The reality of his absence is inescapable.

In a week from now, the president of Iran will be on U.S. soil, Naghmeh added. And I have to wonder whether my government will use this opportunity to appeal directly to President Rouhani for the release of my husband. I hope President Obama will break his deafening silence and speak out for my husband. But I also ask that everyone join me in appealing directly to President Rouhani by writing letters urging him to release Saeed.

In his letter, posted here, Pastor Saeed also told the Iranian leader that none of his work in Iran was political or threatened national security in any way.

Mr. President, I, like you, believe in moderation and, as a spiritual man, have no interest in politics and did not seek actions against national security, propaganda or political groups. My Purpose in all my attempts in my hometown was to reduce pain and suffering as well as compassion for the poor, orphans and unaccompanied children in accordance with religious rules and the sole intention of pleasing my Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pastor Saeed also conveyed the physical abuse he suffered during the four months he spent in solitary confinement:

During this extremely difficult, exhausting and tormenting period that cannot be described here, I was in agony from the severity of stomach bleeding and other internal diseases as a result of terrible condition in the detention . . .

Just last month, an Iranian court rejected Pastor Saeeds appeal, leaving his eight year prison sentence in place.

Pastor Saeed was convicted of threatening the security of Iran because he chose to peacefully gather with other Christian believers. On January 27, 2013, Judge Pir Abassi, a judge presently sanctioned by the European Union for his human rights abuses, found Pastor Saeed's Christian faith and activities tantamount to national security threat, and sentenced him.

While U.S. Secretary of State Kerry has issued two brief statements urging Iran to release Pastor Saeed, the ACLJ and Pastor Saeeds family continue to call on President Obama to elevate this critical case to speak out directly on Pastor Saeeds behalf.

On September 26th, the one year anniversary of Pastor Saeeds captivity, there will be prayer vigils in this country and around the world a united effort to call attention to Pastor Saeeds plight and a very important opportunity to advocate his release.

May 20, 2014 as reported by ACLJ:

After spending two months in an Iranian hospital, we learned today that Pastor Saeed Abedini was removed from the hospital and taken back to Rajai Shahr Prison.

The transfer came without any advance notice and family members in Iran confirmed that he was severely beaten at the hospital and then forcibly returned to prison.

The reason for the transfer is unclear and according to family members, one of the guards who was involved in the transfer mentioned the Iranian nuclear talks as a possible motive.

"This is an extremely disappointing development - one that breaks my heart," said Naghmeh Abedini, Pastor Saeed's wife. "Our family is deeply saddened and we continue to pray for Saeed - for his safety and his release. We are very grateful that so many people around the world continue to pray for Saeed."

When Pastor Saeed was transferred to the hospital in March, he was initially shackled by guards who lashed out violently against him. He was also denied medical treatment at that time and family members were prohibited from seeing him.

Since then and in the weeks that followed, Pastor Saeed's situation at the hospital improved. Family members were permitted to visit with him frequently and he was provided with nutritional meals.

Pastor Saeed, a U.S. citizen, turned 34 on May 7th and his return to prison comes as efforts continue in this country and abroad to secure his release.
