Q.
What is the major objective of the General Conference administration for "Follow the Bible?"
A.The major objective of the General Conference administration is to inspire millions of Seventh-day Adventists to further Bible Study. Recent surveys indicate that less than 50 percent of the church membership is regularly studying the Bible. "Follow the Bible" has the possibility of reigniting the desire to study God's word. It has the possibility of lifting the average church member to new heights of spirituality through God's word. What if all 16 million Seventh-day Adventists were faithfully studying God's word each day? What if they were discovering Jesus personally in His word? What if they had a new vital experience with our Lord? God would pour out His Spirit in abundance and we would see an explosion of witnessing and evangelism like the church has never seen.

The Bible came to our church recently. I asked three of my classmates their opinion of the event. Two thought it was an excellent initiative. The third said it reminded him of the bi-annual parading of the cross at the Catholic school he attended.

"Follow the Bible" is an initiative sponsored by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and its world divisions to stimulate a deeper interest in reading the Bible. It features a multi-language Bible traveling to countries around the world and large international gatherings to recommit to a study of God's word.

I saw the huge Bible when it came thru Myanmar.  There was a large meeting at the Union compound church on a Tuesday evening, with lots of parading and singing and picture taking - and absolutely no reading at all of the huge Bible itself.  I understand tho, that in some other places whole chapters are read at the special meetings.

My friend there questioned the good of the event too.  He said it would make more sense to have Bible studies and study groups rather than some event to parade around a huge Bible.  While partly agreeing with him, partly i see that this is good too, to help people get enthused about reading the Bible.

The idea of this program is to get SDA members to read the Bible more.  It is appalling to know that the average SDA only spends 10 minutes a week with the Bible, and 5 minutes with the SOP.  How can we withstand the attacks of Satan if we aren't feeding ourselves?

If you are interested in seeing how big the Bible is compared to myself, you can see a pic of me holding one of these Bibles in Myanmar on my blog page.

While in Korea i saw one of these huge Bibles that was purchased by a private individual.  Can you guess how much it cost?

Arrgh!  I just submitted my last post with putting any name in the "Name" field.  Could everyone here try to put something in the "Name" field so that everything doesn't fill up with "Anonymous"?  Thanks wink

One of the comments from the pastor on our campus was something like: "Receive a blessing by carrying the Bible around the campus". The Bible was carried through the dormitory hallways where students had the opportunity to touch the Bible.

"Touch the Bible"?

Sounds a bit like a Catholic or Buddhist procession to gain merit.......
