Lesson 2: The Fall of Man

16. Who often instructed Adam and Eve, and what did they instruct them about?
I saw the holy angels often visited the garden, and gave instruction to Adam and Eve concerning their employment, and also taught them concerning the rebellion of Satan and his fall. The angels warned them of Satan, and cautioned them not to separate from each other in their employment, for they might be brought in contact with this fallen foe. (5)

18. Did Eve believe what the Lord had said, just as he said it?
and even daring to doubt what God had saidShe thought, Perhaps it does not mean just as the Lord said. (5)
19. Was the forbidden fruit ugly or rotten?
It was pleasing to the eye, and pleasant to the taste. (5)
20. What was astonishing to Eve about the snake, and why?
...expressed her astonishment that he had the power of speech. (6)
21. Was Adam deceived?
He felt sure that this was the foe which they had been warned against, and that his wife must die. (6)
22. Why did Adam resolve to share Eve's fate?
They must be separated. His love for Eve was strong. And in utter discouragement he resolved to share her fate. (6)
23. In the last paragraph of chapter one is written what Satan's plans were to cause Adam and Eve to disobey. What were the two steps again, and did he succeed in his plan?
create doubt whether God did mean as he said, next, excite their curiosity, and lead them to pry into the unsearchable plans of God, and reason as to the cause of his restrictions in regard to the tree of knowledge. (4)
And he had now tempted the woman to distrust God, to inquire into his wisdom, and to seek to penetrate his all-wise plans.
24. Which did Adam love more - Eve, or God's command?
His love for Eve was strong. And in utter discouragement he resolved to share her fate Adam, through his love for Eve, disobeyed the command of God and fell with her. (6)
25. Name the emotion and describe the action of the angels when they heard of man's fall.
Every harp was hushed. The angels cast their crowns from their heads in sorrow. All heaven was in agitation. (6)
26. What were the angels afraid Adam and Eve might do, and why?
The angels feared that they would put forth the hand, and eat of the tree of life, and be immortal sinners. (6, 7)
27. Did God himself drive Adam and Eve from the garden, and if so, how?
God said that he would drive the transgressors from the garden holy angels were sent to drive them out of the garden. (7)
28. Did the tree of life give immortality?
partake of the tree of life, that they might live forever (7)
29. What is one similarity between Satan's course and man's course?
Then Satan triumphed. Others he had made to suffer by his fall. He had been shut out of heaven, they out of paradise. (7)
Bonus question: How many ways were there for Adam and Eve to sin at first?
One way: not to separate from each other in their employment (5)

#17 should only have "for in perfect obedience only were they safe."

#27 should only have "But holy angels were sent to drive them out of the garden."

The Bonus Question has the right number in the answer, but the answer explaining that number is incorrect.

I'm really tickled that someone is serious enough about understanding this precious book as to take the time to go thru this Study Guide so carefully.  May God bless you abundantly Sister in Christ!!!

Thank you for taking the time to correct my answers.

I am confused about the bonus question.

The first paragraph:

"The angels cautioned them not to separate from each other in their employment, for they might be brought in contact with this fallen foe. The angels enjoined upon them to closely follow the directions God had given them, for in perfect obedience only were they safe."

The only direction specified is not to separate from each other.

The second paragraph lists how Eve sinned.

What is the one way you are thinking of?

Chapter 2 Bonus Question hint:
It was not a sin to wander away from her husband.  Yes, that was a "mistake", but not a "sin".

One request i have, Sister in Christ, is that to make your answers even more useful, could you please leave off the page numbers?  That is only good for the particular printing you have, and others have been printed with different paging, and of course the online version has no paging.  I'm sorry if that makes something more difficult, but personally i have never liked paging of any of the Spirit of Prophecy, as when someone else prints it in a new format, that paging becomes meaningless.  That is why in this study i refer everything to chapter and paragraph number, as that will always be the same no matter in what format or who prints this book in the future.  aww

I am pondering the bonus question.

Thank you for your advice. I will follow your recommendation regarding chapter and paragraph numbers.

The way for Adam and Eve to sin was to "...be brought into contact with this fallen foe." (2.1) Eve listened to the voice of the tempter, "...and even daring to doubt what God had said..." (2.2)

-- In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die
That was God's command, and only by disobeying that command could they sin.  This is amazing to me, that they COULD NOT kill, or break the Sabbath, or serve other Gods, or even lie...... There was only one way to sin at first.

well i am very puzzle because before the fall even had happen it was a lie had been told if you read Gen 2;16-17 it says that the LORD commanded the man saying of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: and in the 17verse the LORD said but in other words theres a consequence behind what in getting ready 2 say of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eastest thereof thou shall surely die. now the reason why i said it was a lie told before the fall because if you read GEN 3;3 EVE said that ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die and if you read what the LORD said in GEN 2;16-17 he only said eat he never said touch so eve told a lie

Very interesting point that you make.... Eve added to the word of God. It is a dangerous thing to add or change the word of God.

Satan then took advantage of this and used it against her....

This thing about whether God did or didn't tell Eve to not even TOUCH the fruit is covered on my blog here:
http://great-controversy-movie.com/blog/?p=71

Here is the main quote:

ti: Spiritual Gifts. Volume 3
pr: 2
pg: 35
In the midst of the garden, near the tree of life, stood the tree
of knowledge of good and evil. Of this tree the Lord commanded our first parents not to eat, neither to touch it, lest they die. He told them that they might freely eat of all the trees in the garden except one; but if they ate of that tree they should surely die.

But then there are other quotes with Ellen White's name on them saying that Eve "overstated" the words of God.

Now this is the only, absolutely only place where i have seen a direct contradiction in writings with Ellen White's name on them before her husband, James White's death.  After his death there are many such examples, showing clearly i believe what has happened with her material.

AMEN webmaster... and thank you for that!! aww.gif No matter what, the truth is better than a cover up and lies and hiding the head in the sand.

Conjecture here, but maybe death would only come by eating the fruit, however if one is touching it, Satan has already taken control of the heart and the fall will soon follow.
