I agree with webmaster that we should be pointing people to Jesus, encouraging them to read the Bible and SOP. We should be humble not egotistical.
I was shocked when I read Hyveth William's testimony. It sounds like a very confused story. I am concerned about the out of body experience (occult?), hearing God's voice (the Bible is God's voice), the "encounter" with God and being reminded of the encounter by seeing flowers in strange places. There is much more of concern, here is the link:
Thanks for the link, Sister in Christ. I just went and read the story..... It is quite dramatic, and if God really did call her from that kind of life, then praise God. BUT, from the little bit i can read in this one article, and by her subsequent crazy religious teaching, i would say that Satan is the one who was talking in her head.
" I saw myself dying and I knew...I felt that I had stepped outside of my body and I was standing outside of my body looking at myself laying there. " That's just not how God goes around calling people. It looks like she totally sold herself over to the devil, and now he is using her quite successfully. Don't our SDA leaders vette the people they allow to be pastors???
Since starting this post I have had the opportunity to listen to Hyveth Williams preach. I found the mixing of secular and religious themes disturbing. I also found it difficult to follow the free style. I have since read about African-American preaching styles. It seems that her style is quite similar. Now I understand better. I know not to take everything she says literally.
I've listened to some black preachers, and they gave the truth with great power. But Hyveth really seems to not understand the truth, and preaches a "secular" gospel which is so popular among the Sunday churches today too. This should not be brought in among God's people.
I agree. At first I was upset by her preaching and wanted to find the error behind it. However, after hearing her preach, I don't believe this wise. For example, she uses terms like "Jesus is our supreme intercessor", "we sprinkle the blood of Jesus on others..." etc. I think she makes things up as she goes along. In fact, I think she prides herself on the spontaneous nature of her preaching. I think it would be a waste of time for me to try to counter her errors.
(She refers to conservative historic Adventists in a negative way many times during her sermons.)
A much better use of my time and energy would be to quietly read the Bible myself, rather than have someone 'interpret' (because they are a Hebrew and Greeek scholar) it for me in a charismatic manner.
Thanks for the honest, first-person account Anonymous. This is one good reason for something like this forum - it is a way to interact with Brothers and Sisters around the globe to determine what we should be doing.
Today i gave two sermons, both about the "Will of God". I really believe we need to know that, and the Bible and SOP are and Prayer are the best ways. Sharing testimonies with each other is another way - seeing how God has led others.
Pray for us here in Sweden!!! Hyveth Williams is coming here next weekend.
If it wasnt because my children have been asked to play in a double quartet I would flee to another church next Sabbath!
We've just had Mr. Eugene Prewitt here for our week of prayer at Ekebyholm. The seeds in our young people's hearts may not even have the chance to germinate before her arrival....I am really concerned and don't even want my children to listen to her.
