Here are some select scriptures that back this up. Please dont misunderstand and think this about mindless repetition type prayers. God wants sincere consecrated heart prayer.

There is great need today of just such sincere, heart-felt repentance and confession. Those who have not humbled their souls before God in acknowledging their guilt, have not yet fulfilled the first condition of acceptance. If we have not experienced that repentance which is not to be repented of, and have not confessed our sin with true humiliation of soul and brokenness of spirit, abhorring our iniquity, we have never sought truly for the forgiveness of sin; and if we have never sought, we have never found the peace of God. The only reason why we may not have remission of sins that are past, is that we are not willing to humble our proud, hearts, and comply with the conditions of the Word of truth.Testimonies, vol. 5, pp. 635, 636.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Prov. 28:13.
Confession will not be acceptable to God without sincere repentance and reformation. There must be decided changes in the life; everything offensive to God must be put away. This will be the result of genuine sorrow for sin. The work that we have to do on our part is plainly set before us: Wash you, make you clean. . . .SC 44
Christ is waiting with longing desire for the manifestation of Himself in His church. When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim them as His own. . LDE 39-LDE 39.2
Can we just sit back and relax and wait for Jesus to come?

God's promises are conditional.
In order to make it possible for Him to bless us, we must do our part. We cannot expect that all His blessings will come to us naturally, if we fold our hands in inactivity.
We are to be laborers together with God.
It is our privilege and duty to labor for souls ready to perish. . PCP 25.5
