I've only seen two copies of this book. I paid 27.50usd for mine over 15 years ago. I would think one in pristine condition would be around 80 -100 usd.
While visiting an Adventist family two years ago, I was shown a first edition Steps to Christ. The first chapter was entitled 'The Sinner's Need of Christ'.
In current editions of Steps to Christ, this is the title of the second chapter, as you probably know, and the 'new' first chapter is entitled 'God's Love for Man'.
Who authored this 'new' first chapter? Some suggest Uriah Smith, though I have yet to see the proof.
Notably this first edition was published in 1892 by F.H. Revell Co., a non-SDA outfit. It is possible the webmaster here, Daniel Winters has discussed this on his website EarlySDA.
The chapter Gods Love for Man was not part of the original 1892 edition. It was added in 1893 largely from Ms. 41, 1892, but it also used Bible Echo, August 1, 1892, and Signs of the Times, Nov. 28, 1892.
