"If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth."  Mark 9:23.  It is faith that connects us with heaven and brings us strength for coping with the powers of darkness.  In Christ, God has provided means for subduing every evil trait and resisting every temptation, however strong.  But many feel that they lack faith, and therefore they remain away from Christ.  Let these souls, in their helpless unworthiness, cast themselves upon the mercy of their compassionate Saviour.  Look not to self, but to Christ.  He who healed the sick and cast out demons when He walked among men is still the same mighty Redeemer.  Then grasp His promises as leaves from the tree of life: "Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out."  John 6:37.  As you come to Him, believe that He accepts you, because He has promised.  You can never perish while you do this -- never.  {MH 65.3}

I love the phrase [grasp the promises]

Isaiah 65:17

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

You will lose nothing by connecting with the King of the universe.  He "is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy."  He will welcome you to the home of the blest.  There you will see that "our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."  "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."  What greater evidence could we ask of the love of God, than he has given?  Let us dwell upon his rich promises, till our hearts are melted into tenderness and devotion.   {RH, September 16, 1890 par. 6}

God will work out His own purpose, taking the human agent into copartnership with the great firm of salvation, and making of him all that He has promised in accordance with His Word: "I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir" (Isaiah 13:12).  {TDG 127.6}

The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.

Jesus was meek and lowly of heart, and we must earnestly strive to be like him.  If we are indeed learning of him who is meek and lowly of heart, we shall be afflicted.  Trials will come upon us, but day by day we must come to Christ and find rest, for he will lift the soul above the daily sorrow and perplexity into a realm of peace.  We must remember that Jesus endured insult and mockery and false accusation.  He has told us that we must learn to endure suffering, as he has endured it in our behalf.   When we have his Spirit, we shall bring our trials to him and find rest unto our souls.  Those who are seeking peace and rest will find it alone in Jesus.  We are to come to him trusting implicitly that he will give us all that he has promised.  {ST, January 26, 1891 par. 3}

We can have that peace when we confess and repent of our sins and surrender to Jesus.

(N). Jeremiah 32:40

And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

As the wickedness of the wicked increases, opposition will be brought to bear upon you closer and closer.  Satan has many batteries prepared to open upon the people of God.  You will have troubles and difficulties to meet, such as you never experienced before, and there will seem to be no way of escape.  But if you have learned to trust in God, you know that he will not leave you; you have the assurance that he will hear your prayers, for he has been to you all that he has promised.  You can hang your helpless soul on Jesus, and in the time of trial he will prove to you a never-failing helper.  {HS 197.5}

He never fails us.

Isaiah 66:23

And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

We dishonor God when we think of Him only as a judge ready to pass sentence upon us, and forget that He is a loving Father.  The whole spiritual life is molded by our conceptions of God, and if we cherish erroneous views of His character, our souls will sustain injury.  We should see in God one who yearns toward the children of men, longing to do them good ... All through the Scriptures, God is represented as one who calls, woos by His tender love, the hearts of His erring children.  No earthly parent could be as patient with the faults and mistakes of their children as is God with those He seeks to save.  No one could plead more tenderly with the transgressor.  No human lips ever poured out more tender entreaty to the wanderer than does He.  O shall we not love God, and show our love by humble obedience?  Let us have a care for our thoughts, our experiences, our attitude toward God, for all His promises are but the breathings of unutterable love.  {TMK 263.4}

To those who accept Christ by living faith, He gives power to become sons of God.  They enter His school; they are His students.  They need not be troubled or anxious, for He will ratify His promise to them.  He will not restrict His word, but will fulfill all His promises.  {18MR 97.2}

Your only safety and happiness are in making Christ your constant Counsellor.  You can be happy in Him if you had not another friend in the wide world.  Your feelings of unrest and homesickness or loneliness may be for your good.  Your heavenly Father means to teach you to find in Him the friendship and love and consolation that will satisfy your most earnest hopes and desires.  I fear that you are striving to carry your own burden.  It is too heavy for you.  Jesus bids you cast it upon Him that He may carry it for you.  There is an experience for you to gain in faith and trust in God.  He is faithful who hath promised.  You must exercise faith in the promises of God.  {11MR 357.3}

Hope has been set before us, even the hope of eternal life.  Nothing short of this blessing for us will satisfy our Redeemer, but it is our part to lay hold upon this hope by faith in Him who has promised.  We may expect to suffer, for it is those who are partakers with Him in His sufferings who shall be partakers with Him in His glory.  He has purchased forgiveness and immortality for the sinful, perishing souls of men, but it is our part to receive these gifts by faith.  Believing in Him, we have this hope as an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast.  We are to understand that we may confidently expect God's favor not only in this world but in the heavenly world, since He paid such a price for our salvation.  Faith in the atonement and intercession of Christ will keep us steadfast and immovable amid the temptations that press upon us in the church militant.  Let us contemplate the glorious hope that is set before us, and by faith lay hold upon it ... {TMK 79.2}

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:23-25

If you think you are standing firm you had better be careful that you do not fall.

Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people.  But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.

It is not best to mark out some special way in which God must work to fulfil your desires.  Your ways, your plans, may not be God's ways or God's plans.  The promise that you have thought suited to your need will be fulfilled in unlooked-for blessings, greater than you have asked or thought.  Remember that you are not to doubt because you do not receive the very thing for which you asked.  Paul requested that the troublesome thorn in the flesh might be removed, but the Lord gave that which was more valuable, -- grace to endure it patiently.  The strength of Jesus was made perfect in weakness, and Paul was able through Christ to bear about in his body the dying of the Lord Jesus.  Jesus prayed that if it were possible, the bitter cup might be removed, but He was not released from the obligation of drinking it.  Strength was imparted to Him to drain its bitterest dregs.  Jesus said, "Not as I will, but as Thou wilt."  With these precious examples before us, let us trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon our God.  {PrT, January 30, 1890 par. 18}

Come to Jesus, and receive rest and peace.  You may have the blessing even now.  Satan suggests that you are helpless, and cannot bless yourself.  It is true; you are helpless.  But lift up Jesus before him: "I have a risen Saviour.  In Him I trust, and He will never suffer me to be confounded.  In His name I triumph.  He is my righteousness, and my crown of rejoicing."  Let no one here feel that his case is hopeless; for it is not.  You may see that you are sinful and undone; but it is just on this account that you need a Saviour.  If you have sins to confess, lose no time.  These moments are golden.  "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).  Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness will be filled; for Jesus has promised it.  Precious Saviour!  His arms are open to receive us, and His great heart of love is waiting to bless us.  {1SM 352.3}

For a few weeks past I have had a deep sense of the promises of God and the hope of the Christian.  The Bible never seemed to me so full of rich gems of promise as within the last few weeks.  It seems that the dews of heaven are ready to fall upon us and refresh us, if we will only take the promises to ourselves.  We can never overcome our own natural tendencies without the help of Heaven, and the precious Jesus places Himself right by our side to help us in this work.  He says, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world" (Matthew 28:20).  We want to believe just what Christ has said.  We want that our faith shall compass the promises ... {HP 118.2}
