In going thru some old posts today, I came across one made 4 years ago by zafer in a thread on the problems of Uriah Smith. It said:
An interesting pattern that I noticed in the way EGW's writings were messed up is the fact that they used to solve controversies in the church by inserting their own ideas in books with her name on the cover:
their view on the issue of covenants was enforced over EJ Waggoner's in the book P&P;
their view on the trumpets of Revelation was enforced over Owen's in the book GC;
their view related to the open vs. close communion debate was enforced in the book DA.
I don't say that I couldn't be wrong, but this is how it appears to me.
Could you please tell us who this Owen person was, and what they were teaching?
He was a Canadian minister. In 1880's they voted a revolution against him and another minister whose teachings on the trumpets were different than the established ones of the denomination. For me what exactly they were teaching is pointless. They could very well be wrong. My point was that I saw a pattern: the ideas in the resolutions they voted found their way in the writings published with the name of EGW on the cover. The reference to Lich's interpretation in 1888 GC is an example. Another is what they voted on the inspiration, when they said that the words are not inspired. This idea can be seen in the introduction of the same edition of GC.
