"The movie [Hacksaw Ridge] is expected to open avenues of conversation with friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family like no other witnessing opportunity has in 100 years."

I have serious concerns about 'falling at the feet' of movies/directors. My father, who never watches movies, went to see "The Passion of the Christ", the highest earning R rated movie ever. Was it beneficial? Perhaps in some measure, but what about the negative aspects? Was it worth it? Did it make him a better witness? I don't know.

What value/s should we be expressing in our approach to this issue of movies and witnessing opportunities? It seems many Adventists are thrilled by the prospect.

Personally, I'm better off without them.

Just gave up my 'sound of music'...  soon I'll have given them all up....  I lived without them early in my life and was much happier without tv and movies, no cyber stuff, no toys... just outdoors, nature, and animals...God's country was the best for me.

Is the portrayal of Desmond Doss embarrassing or untruthful, is Desmond Doss himself embarrassing or disloyal to the Bible and what it stands for ?

Do the non Adventists of Earth accurately understood what the SDA faith is, sufficient to admire and trust it ?

Could this portrayal grab the attention and arouse interest ?

Jesus with the woman at the well.

Jesus got her attention, and awakened interest in her toward what He had to say.

Jesus gave her information that convicted her.   His revealing her sins was harsh, but His manner of doing it convinced her His kindness toward her was genuine, and He was her friend.

Jesus built and developed in her the desire to know more with the growing feelings of following.

attention, interest, information, conviction, desire, action

If Desmond Doss is one of the few SDA's worthy of notice, then God has moved on one of the worlds own to video preach about this faith, in someone who lived it.

Philippians 1:

15  Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

16  The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

17  But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defense of the gospel.

18  What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretense, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

Did Desmond Doss live his faith ? ( I assume so) Will his story interest lots of non-SDA's in a way that the average SDA can have something to open up a conversation.  The average SDA in developed countries has no training how to "peel the onion" , no training how to win souls.

If SDA's do not expect God to attract the attention to His message & His people, they will not recognize opportunities because they expect God works the way they do.

While I:m not planning to see the movie personally, this looks like an excellent opportunity to engage people who would not be interested otherwise in the Adventist faith.

Let:s have plenty of material and books etc. for these people, as I expect this movie will be quite popular.
