Since the typhoon rained out my volunteer teaching today at the church, I stayed home and made a video regarding some things that may or may not happen this Fall.

The big news of course is that the pope is coming to America and will address the House and Senate for the first time in history.  How the early Pilgrims would feel if they knew the leader of the Roman Catholic Church was welcomed with open arms by their descendants to come and teach them!  I believe this is prophetically important, and advise all of God's people to be especially alert during the last week of September.

There are several other supposed "convergences" to happen in this time frame, which may or may not have any validity.  The 7 year Shemitah cycle when the land is supposed to rest looks like possibly like it will occur this year, as 7-year cycles going back to at least 1987 anyway have brought major financial problems.

Many people are trying to tie this into the Day of Atonement, saying that it is September 23, 2015.  Now as SDAs, we should know better than anybody on the face of the earth, including the Jews, how to calculate the 10th day of the 7th month, as that was the whole impetus behind October 22, 1844.

Sadly tho, most of us are allergic to anything related to God's appointed times, so we are just as lost about timing issues as the secular world and Babylon around us.

In calculating it correctly, it can be seen that the Day of Atonement for 2015 will be October 23.  This is nearly the latest day in the year that the Day of Atonement can ever be.  That is a bit interesting in and of itself.

Let's study to show ourselves approved unto God, and be able to warn others of the prophetic events taking place, and be like Jesus and keep his appointed times.

I have to login and go thru about 5 extra hoops.

If you write something that you really want taken down or changed, let me know and I'll be happy to do it.

If I could do that with the book of my sins, I would willingly go thru 5,000 hoops! hmm

Fortunately, the Blood of the Lamb will cover them if I stay true to him. smile

There's another way of coming at the calendar issue.

It is known that the Jewish calendar runs in a 19-year cycle, and 2015 is 171 years removed from 1844, and 171 is a multiple of 19.  Therefore, 1844 and 2015 are "in phase", and some software that I have to display standard Jewish calendars shows identical dates both years for Rosh Hashanah (September 14).

The 19-year cycle is based on the idea that 19 solar years are nearly identical to 235 lunar months.  The 235 lunar months are based on allocating 12 lunar months for each of the 19 years, for a total of 228 lunar months, and then intercalating an additional 7 lunar months, to make 235.  The intercalation is required to keep the Jewish holidays basically in synch with the seasons, and a purely lunar year of 354 days would imply that specific holidays drift around the seasons.

It is well known from the Millerite literature that a deliberate choice was made to use the October new moon instead of the September one, as the basis for the October 22 date.  I don't know if this choice matters for the future, but if it does, then presumably it should matter just as much in 2015 as it does in 1844, since the years are in phase.

Actually, the reason the Second-Advent believers went with the October 22, 1844 date, is because the first new moon of the Jewish year they considered to be the first new moon after the vernal equinox.  Karaites say it is the first new moon after the barley harvest.  So the Karaite new year often starts a month earlier than it should.

Starting the new year when it should (I think it started April 18, 1844, but will check if anyone is interested), brings one down to just finding out the time of the start of the 7th month to be able to get to the 10th day.  It is quite fascinating for me, and leaves a big question unanswered - the conjunction was just after sundown on October 11.  The first crescent would have been able to have been observed just before sundown on the 12th.  So either method to find the start of a new month would have resulted, in this case, in the same date - sundown October 12 started the 7th month.  That makes it easy to just count 10 days, and you get to October 22 (from sundown on the 21st) for the all-important date.

I studied out how our spiritual forefathers got to the exactly correct date of October 22, 1844 for the end of Daniel's 2300 day prophecy, and found that they were excellent students, and of course led by God.
