How do we have/increase our relationship with Jesus?

Isn't this the most important ?

It takes full and complete surrender, not a whit withheld.  It we are going to be His it has to be Wholly Thine Lord or we will be none of Thine.  We are not our own, we are bought with a very high price!

Love bought us, how can we not Love, Love?  God is Love and gave all that Heaven could bestow to redeem us.  Heaven and Love withheld nothing to redeem us so how on earth can we not surrender all we are fully and totally?

By beholding Love we become changed to also be of Love and Love does no wrong.  Jesus is the Champion and example for us all!  We are His!

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Amen!  It is about complete surrender.   This word "surrender" is rarely used among us Christians anymore, which causes some searching people to look to Islam, as that is the main thing they talk about.

God will not withhold anything from us that will really be for our good. Jesus would have us happy in this world, and enjoy with him the glory of the next world. God has given to children and youth invitations to surrender to him. "My son, give me thine heart." A promise is given--"Those that seek me early shall find me."  Youth Instructor 1874-2-1

Of course reading inspired material will help us become closer to him too, as knowledge and prayer - communication with him, opens up doors of the soul to him so he can come in and clean out the dross.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

From Steps to Christ:

Many are inquiring, "How am I to make the surrender of myself to
God?" You desire to give yourself to Him, but you are weak in moral
power, in slavery to doubt, and controlled by the habits of your life
of sin. Your promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand. You
cannot control your thoughts, your impulses, your affections. The
knowledge of your broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens your
confidence in your own sincerity, and causes you to feel that God
cannot accept you; but you need not despair. What you need to
understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power
in the nature of man, the power of decision, or of choice. Everything
depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has
given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart,
you cannot of yourself give to God its affections; but you can choose
to serve Him. You can give Him your will; He will then work in you to
will and to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature
will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your
affections will be centered upon Him, your thoughts will be in harmony
with Him.

-------------------------

So it looks to me like we have the power to give God our will.

Is there another facet to this?

Yes, the power of the will is ours that we can surrender all, every last bit and nothing withheld.  This Satan cannot take from us, the power to choose and this is what this comprises.

We are choosing when we do absolute complete surrender to have Him and Him only to be the Master in our soul Temples.  This is where He dwells in His Church!

2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

We are His Building, His Temple, His Body, His Bride, His precious Jewels because we have given our all to Him.
