Mt28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Mr1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

Mr15:42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

Mr16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Lu4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Lu4:31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

Lu13:10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

Lu23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

Ac17:2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Ac18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

Mt 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Lord is,

from kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Master (as a respectful title):-- God, Lord, master, Sir.

Sabbath is,

4521. sabbaton

sabbaton sabbaton sab'-bat-on
of Hebrew origin (7676); the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension, a se'nnight, i.e. the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications:--sabbath (day), week.

in Oct. there is going to be a big meeting of reps of all the churches and the papacy...  I'm sure something about Sunday will be on the agenda don't you?

I believe the day of worship is a test now and in the future. However, something to consider is the fact that we are living in a 24/7 world. In the past employers understood the seven day cycle and respected a day of rest. Now, global companies except their employees to work any time of day or night.

There are surely very trying times ahead for those who do not follow the system.

Is there a text for following God given cycles of time (day/night), not just the Sabbath? I'm sure we are all guilty of abusing the principle of rest. Personally I have spent the last six months sleeping six to seven hours a night on week nights. I know it cannot continue but it is very tempting to give in to work pressure.

These are just my thoughts on the matter.

Yours in Christ

I agree with you Shireen...

here in the US we work way way too much... and in the end where does it get us really?

Are you saying 6 to 7 hours a nite is a long time for, or a short time?

Personally, I need around 8 hours a nite, but then I usually wake up once or twice during the nite.  I know many people who only get 5 hours a nite.  Looking at the stats, it's obvious that the amount of time spent in sleep has been decreasing dramatically since the introduction of electricity.  I think Satan is trying to keep us from being in full possession of a sound body and mind.

Regarding following God's cycles, the week of Creation comes to mind, but then it is true that the "evening" came before the "morning"!

I am saying that 6 to 7 hours is not enough sleep. I agree that Satan is creating ways for us to break God's principle of rest and at the same time thinking that we are not really doing anything wrong. You are correct in saying that people are generally getting less sleep. It is our duty to make sure we have "a sound body and mind" by getting enough sleep.

It is very challenging in today's world to say no to extended work hours. Personally, I work several all nighters each year to keep up with work. However, I know at least two successful people who have never stayed up all night in their life. I guess it all comes down to effective time management and priorities.

I am praying that God will give me the strength and wisdom to change because I do not want to continue this way.

Thanks for the opportunity to share.

Shireen, I sure know what you are saying as before I retired from it I worked as journeyman electric lineman and some terrible storms hit our system and it was a terrible amount of hours we would work straight through so people could care for their animals and selves.

It has been found and proven true, loss of sleep can never be made up, it does it's damage and I am one that can vouch for that.

The last 35 yrs. was with a rural electric cooperative and rural people most need electricity to even pump their water.

Sleep don't come easy for me and I find it helps to not be with bright lights an hour before retiring and to have your bedroom very dark.

I know prayer helps too asking God to help you get unwound and hyper.
