Dear Brothers and Sisters

I would like your advice please.

My husband and I must make an important decision in the next year or so. We have made a commitment to fast and pray one day a month to seek God' leading.

I am anxious about fasting for several reasons. Firstly I have never fasted due to health issues such as low blood sugar. Secondly my husband has suggested we fast the first Tuesday of each month. This concerns me as we work at least ten hours a day and live in a demanding climate in the tropics.

Please share your experiences of fasting and the different types of fasting. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Shireen

Since you have health issues, that food impacts strongly, which your husband may not have, please talk to your doctor first.

Consider what the issues regarding the decision you are facing, search the Bible & SOP for the principles governing those issues, God may have already mapped out Inspiration's answer for you.

Psalms 25:9  The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

See meekness from God then claim this promise.

Psalms 32:8  I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

God knows what you are considering - He is willing to teach the meek.

Hebrews 13:21  Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Biblical meekness is seeking to please God, in Hebrews 13:21 He promises to help you please Him.

John 7:17  If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Seek to obey what you already understand in the Bible.  God will open your understanding. Ask God to open doors and shut doors to guide your decisions, and help you find answers in Scripture. Then if you choose to fast and pray God will honour it.

I can't really add anything to what Ed has nicely covered, but would like to give my personal experience.

I have real pain if I go 1 hour past usual meal time.   If I miss an entire meal, I get really cranky, and then weak, and then detached from everything.  There is a short window where my mind seems super clear, but not long after that it's like everything pretty much shuts down.  I have very low blood pressure (98/58), and almost zero body fat, which might account for some of these symptoms.

Perhaps it would be best for you to fast on a Sunday or Sabbath?

You can do a water fast or some kind of juice fast and on the juice be careful to the one you use as some can impact certain health issues.

  Letter 206, 1908
     307. All the fasting in the world will not take the place of simple trust in the word of God. "Ask," He says, "and ye shall receive." ... You are not called upon to fast forty days. The Lord bore that fast for you in the wilderness of temptation. There would be no virtue in such a fast; but there is virtue in the blood of Christ.  {CD 189.1}

                                              MS 28, 1900
     308. The spirit of true fasting and prayer is the spirit which yields mind, heart, and will to God.  {CD 189.2}

Sabbath next will be a special day of fasting and prayer and earnest labor for me. And I shall trust in God, who is my helper and my God, for strength. He has graciously helped me, and I believe He will help me still. In anticipation I rejoice that the scenes on the day of Pentecost will be repeated, and that indeed the power of the grace of God will be bestowed in a wonderful manner.  {1888 761.1}

A short water fast is known to be beneficial as it gives the digestive organs a bit of rest and rejuvenation.  Just be careful not to overeat and overtax the stomach the first thing.

Just saw this now....

for your condition... probably a fruit fast would be best...  eating raw fruit with all the fiber will slow down absorption and keep your body supplied with natural sugar...  think of low sugar fruits like strawberries, blueberries and the like...

God Bless

While seeking God's will for these end times, perhaps it could constitute walking in the light as He is in the light, to also read about God's end-time message - after all walking in a lighted room it's easier to find what you are looking for.
