I'm glad to see the bad effects of meat get some exposure, but a bit concerned that the "anti-meat" crowd will get as intolerant as the "anti-smoking" crowd in the future.
I know, that is currently a nice thing for me that there are less people smoking tobacco now, but it's the atmosphere behind this campaign to stamp out tobacco, while at the same time people are ambivalent towards murdering around 3,000 babies a day in America, legalizing marijuana, legalizing homsexual "marriage" abominations etc. that is so troubling. In some places it's gone so far that you can't even purchase a large soda anymore! It's kind of like Satan is willing to allow people to think they are making social progress by stamping out smaller sins, while at the same time, they are getting more and more tolerant of big sins.
No doubt there are a myriad of differences in the bodies of those who don't eat meat compared to those who do. I wonder what else is different, like maybe in the way the whole brain is wired or something?
Yet somehow i still find this all a bit troubling for some undefined way.... It's like when only SDAs were advocating vegetarianism, people knew that we could be trusted to tell the truth in other things too. So Satan got his followers to adopt this healthy lifestyle, so now many people think those astral-gazing Gaia worshipers are telling the truth.
Now when we talk about being vegetarian, these deluded people smile and say they are like us, while normal, thinking people reject our truth on the 3 Angels' Messages because of being connected somehow with these "veggie" pagans.
Yes, the debate is very confusing when there are diet fanatics from many different quarters arguing for the same diet but from very different religious or philosophical bases. Satan is happy when we are doing anything in the extreme and even happier when people do not detect the rebellious undertone.
For example, I fell in with family and followed a high protein (meat) diet last year. Unfortunately it is never just about the food, it is also about the beliefs that go along with the food. My family does not want to be linked to their conservative Adventist past and eating meat is one way of making that distinction. Of course, they only talk about the supposed health benefits but it is much deeper than that. This is clear when they regularly scoff at vegan church members pointing out their health problems saying things such as: "If they only ate a bit of red meat they wouldn't be anaemic."
Anyway the consequences to my health (physical and spiritual) were disastrous and I am only just recovering now.
We need Jesus' courage to face people who loathe us because of our lifestyle choices and the beliefs those choices stand for. We also need Jesus' love to care for people as He does even though they are doing foolish things and persuading others to follow them.
I know that when I see my family next, they will criticize my vegetarian diet and by implication my beliefs. That's the way life is.
Yours in Christ
Shireen
