The Record Keeper is a movie sponsored by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists to try and tell the story of the Great Controversy by Ellen White in a moving picture format.
I made a video to show the church's position, the official trailer, and the first episode along with my recommendation to fix it to faithfully follow the inspired words in the Great Controversy book.
Jesus was the master story-teller, and the Holy Spirit says thru Ellen White that we are to use good illustrations etc. to fix the words in the mind. We also have instruction to be careful of drama. So there is a tension in any project of this nature.
Personally, i really like the steampunk style (steampunk means future-type things with a Victorian-era setting), so find this movie visually appealing. However, there are several places where it is not faithful to the book, and, in fact, teaches contrary to the book.
So my recommendation is for this movie to be redone, fixing the scenes to conform to the truth as found in the book. It would be worse to teach a false gospel, than to teach no gospel at all.
1. First change to movie - restrict subplots to what inspiration actually says.
2. Use Bible & SOP quotes of angels ( loyal and fallen)
3. Outline the Great controversy Saga then do flash backs into the details and sub plots
4. Don't try to depict and cgi everything, use real and matte settings, let soundtrack and narration guide the imagination, within inspiration's limits.
5. Ask viewers questions with each segment, provide links and ways to respond, create a bridge to Bible studies online.
Lot's of good advice in there, Ed. So many times people think they can improve on the words of God. The biggest reason, is that they don't really believe the words are from God. There is a power in God's word that is not appreciated as it should be.
In weekly segments - with daily streaming and archiving - building the entire saga into a segmented whole.
All along the way - show the play & counter play of God & Satan fighting God and causing suffering.
Take the record keeper from revelation ch 12 back to creation > Noah-time > show typology and parallels with end-time (briefly just to moisten the dry sponge preparatory to soaking later).
Move through to Abraham and what God & Satan were doing.
On through Egypt > centuries of slavery > Exodus > finally promised land >and the issues involved at each stage - keep the typologies moving forward and flash back to underscore lessons from sacred history.
Continue up to and through days of Malachi > touching the issues & major players and continue with typologies and progressive lessons.
Move to NT characters and issues & lessons & typologies & prophecies & practical godliness training. Strong on how to / why to - after each daily segment.
With each segment build a bridge to gaining decisions and ask for responses to those calls by going to web sites set up and sequenced with each episode. ( maybe have a corresponding storacles link to come up with each segment .) < use different Bible studies that correspond to each segment >.
The goal is for the viewers to become converts to Jesus Christ. Such a series is to start that process - not just entertain.
1. Union with Father God, and Christ, and the Holy Ghost on their stated terms in the Bible, with heart reception engrafting of Their life and offered character from above, and active human union with them cheerfully. John Chapters 14 and 15 and 16 and 17; 1st Corinthians Chapter 13; Ephesians 3:8-21; 1 John 3:10, 14; 1 John 4:8,20 .
2 . The understanding, adorning and heartfelt obedience, engrafting of all the doctrines of the Bible and the testifying of Jesus Christ. Matthew 13:3-23; Mark 4:2-20; Luke 8:4-15; James 1:17-27.
3. Human relationships on Gods terms. Matthew Chapters 5 - 7 The Sermon on the Mount
Those three things are desired to be made interesting enough that the viewers will be attracted to allow God to touch & convict hearts and desire strongly enough to follow what the Bible says to do.
Then with each episode show what Scripture says is God's will to do.

There are several "response" videos on youtube where they are interviewing SDA members who have screened this movie. The viewers are all gushing about how wonderful the movie is. My guess is that they don't know they real story, and they have been immersed in the world's culture so long, that whatever looks "worldly", while having a "religious" bent, seems wonderful to them.
Let's be good Bereans, and study the inspired words God has given us, and raise our voices to stop these perversions to the truth.

What about an online video covering the entire 9 book long saga of the Great Controversy - using the Received Text Bible & all 9 books PP, PK, DA, AA, GC, COL, MB, MH, SC as EGW wrote and updated them - as they read - as the script, with full appendices and updated and amplified references and data ?
( english, spanish, chinese, japanese, russian, german, <all the languages Bible + SOP is translated in) - not with actors - but with godfearing accurate SDA narration, pictures, photography, charts, video clips, godly accurate animation, free use nature video's of lands mentioned, free market video clips of nature & lands being mentioned, etc -
All interested folks start compiling data from American & overseas SDA sources, LLT data, data from all the godfearing SDA ministries and sources. We use this forum to pray, plan, discuss, strategize, pray as a united whole group, story board, and do our best, call on God to send via online His laborers into the field.
I'm really gratified to see the General Conference officially suspend the Record Keeper Since i uploaded that vid 2 months ago showing problems in the RK, and asking them to either cancel or fix it, it has gotten over 3,200 views. Interestingly, almost 700 of those views have been in the last 24 hours! Anyway, it is great to see that at least some of our leaders are more interested in staying true to God's words than they are to cater to the popular excitement
Thank all of you who contacted someone to have this fixed/suspended, and/or who prayed that God would intervene. Now, may someone do like Ed suggests, and make a video that IS faithful to the words God gave Ellen White.
Someone recently "leaked" the entire series of The Record Keeper up to their Youtube channel.
Jason Satterlund's channel (he's the director), doesn't have it, but on his company's channel (Big Puddle Films) they strangely have the whole episodes # 1, 3, & 4 up on their site. He claims to not know how the series was leaked, yet he seems to be strongly supporting those who leaked it.
He is now trying to raise funds to help him make a new project that will not be based on the Bible or Ellen White's writings, set in the present, that will be set in the spiritual realm and tell a "parable" as he puts it. I hope he stays truthful to the inspired words this time.
I contacted two people in the General Conference about this leak, and they both expressed appreciation for telling them. I hope something can be done, as teaching error will not give glory to God.
