Prayer Alert:

Egypt at the Tipping Point

Millions of Egyptians are currently on the streets of Tahrir Square in Egypt, demanding that Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood government step down.

The people are sick of his increasingly clear Islamist agenda and his economic mismanagement. The Morsi government has been brutal towards Christians and they have joined in the protests.

Recently, Morsi warned he would use the military against the crowds to restore order if he was threatened.

Well, one hour ago, the military came on the official government TV channel of Egypt (channel 1), saying that Morsi had to deal with the unrest in 48 hours or they will step in.

This seems to be great news but we worry that this could be a Morsi strategy to crush the protests while giving himself political cover. The Muslim Brotherhood has been waiting in the wings for 80 years--they will not go down without a fight and they are absolutely not afraid to use brutality.

Egypt stands on a precipice and whether it tilts toward an Islamic State or a democratic and free one is being worked out in the streets as you read this. The Islamists have been brutal towards Christians throughout their first year of power. If they are not deposed, the future is extremely bleak.

Please stop and pray fervently for Egypt. Pray for democracy so that the Christians, secularists, and moderate Muslims can live in peace.

Please spread this widely.

Prayer and the Lord are the true hope of the people as they face a foe that is organized, well-funded, politically savvy, and willing to use violence.

Update July 4:

CAIRO Mohammed Morsi, in office only a year as the first democratically elected leader of Egypt, was rousted from power by the military Wednesday as a euphoric crowd in Tahrir Square cheered his exit.

The former leader was placed under house arrest at the Republican Guard Club, a senior adviser to the Freedom and Justice Party and spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood said. Most members of the presidential team have also been placed under house arrest.

Egyptian security forces also arrested the head of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party and another of the movement's top leaders, an FJP official and security sources said.

----------------------

May the Egyptians get a good government, one that will guarantee freedom for all their citizens to worship God according to their conscience.

Why does Adventist News Network report about what is going on in Egypt (twice now), and while both times they mention that "Muslims" have come to the SDA's help, not even once do they mention that Muslims are doing the burning and stealing and killing?

Are God's people really more worried about being politically correct than about the truth?

I don't remember reading in the Bible where God judges anyone for telling the truth, but watch out those who tell lies (even if just by omission)!

I just posted this on the ANN website, but since it is doubtful whether they will post it, i will post my same comment here.

It is sad that Adventist News Network does not give the whole picture.
Go to http://morningstarnews.org/2013/08/christians-targeted-in-pro-morsi-violence-in-egypt/
to learn: "Watani reported that a pastor and his wife were kidnapped from their Seventh-day Adventist church in Assuit, but the pastor, Nasralla Salib, has told Swedish newspaper Varlden idag that Muslim neighbors rescued him and his wife when pro-Morsi supporters invaded his church."

This ANN article states: "The Adventist Church in Assiut, Egypt, was burned by extremist attackers on August 14. Adventist Church officials stressed that the attack was not part of a wider political movement."

So we learn from other news sources that there are 2 errors in the ANN story.  The attackers were Muslim attackers, and the attackers were part of the political movement.

That is just common sense too, when looking at the facts of what has happened in Egypt in the past several weeks.

How does ANN expect any of us church members to trust them, when we have to go to outside-SDA news sources to get correct information on what is happening in our church?
