Bible texts and passages usually have lots more in them than that is on the surface.
1st Corinthians 13:8 - 10
8 ¶ Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

What is "charity" ? using Strongs #'s - Charity <26> Agape The love that originates and dwells in God, and is only obtained from God.
What is the foundation that protects Agape <26> inside a person ?
According to the testifying found in 2 nd Peter ch 1 . the mutual among believers, like precious faith given because of God's righteousness, grace and peace, and knowing God, and God making His things known, God's power and life, Divine godliness, His glory (character) and His virtue, obeying His promises and their conditions thus entering into eating and drinking in His divine nature escaping spiritually self poisoning on what Satan offers, diligence, and dilligently adding to God given faith, virtue ( Biblical uprightness and purity that come from God ), knowledge (knowing God and what matters to Him and how He would live it in your shoes), temperance ( self denial to run our own ways of living and holy boldness to adopt God's ways despite the clamors of our own desires and Satan's temptations), patience because God Himself is patient, godliness, brotherly kindness because God Himself is exceedingly kind, charity <25> Agape.

Have you ever done a Strongs number search and looked up these texts to see how the Bible uses them, and read the account they were used in with it's context ? Translators come and go, and all have their opinions, but to read how Scripture uses it and it's contect in the passage and the entire story it is part of , then going to SOP and reading equally broadly and looking at all the details there also, a much more complete understanding is gained. The whole purpose of understanding is to walk with God therein what you have learned and be able to talk about it to others in the same attitude of hope and love and kindness and closeness to God whereby you sought it and He began opening it up to you from His books, The Bible and Jesus's testifying through SOP.

Why would prophecy fail ? At least three reasons, one good (need issue nolonger exists ) and one bad (Ideology wide, denomination wide, on national scale apostacy and lawlessness.) one sheer human logistics. (try understanding every drop of water and it's purpose in eternity, each fish, rock, each plant and grain of sand in the oceans and the people who will across human history interact with those things and oceans. Try moving the contents of the oceans with a 5 gallon bucket during one human lifetime. ) One human mind or group of human minds can not equal what God can offer through face to face communication. Human minds require time to grow, God is fully grown .

With face to face between God and glorified humanity, prophecy will not be needed and would be a less wide and deep channel than God speaking for Himself, rather than impressing humans, who can only see, understand, tell a limited amount of what God could personally say once face to face communication is restored.
In Bible history when the Hebrew people went into apostacy and it became a nation wide sin, prophecy among them ceased, God removed the prophets from them. Between Malachi and Matthew a span of 400 yrs happened. Prophecy during that time ceased.
When it was too big, too important, or beyond human ability to understand what was needed to be understood, Prophets were not used. The Ten Commandments are NOT inspired. In most case it is a bad thing but this time it is good. The Ten Commandments were never funneled through human understanding, via inspiration. They are a direct God written document, from His finger to super vitrified stone engraving, on humanly hewn stone tablets. The red letter quotes in the New Testament came direct from the mouth of Christ, there are places in Scripture where God is directly quoted.

Same basic understanding RE tongues as prophecy . Tongues are part of the gifts, so is prophecy, so what ever causes prophecy to be withdrawn, will do so to all the gifts. When the Holy Spirit is insulted ( quenched ), He removes some of the things He does.

Knowledge for mortal humans..........We all get old and die, Ecclesiastes 9:10 ........................ there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Humans forget and need it written down.
Humans stray away from the Lord far enough, long enough, and He warns and warns till His warnings unheeded, He removes their candlestick out of it's place. He removes their ability and willingness to know Him. Lookup candlestick solomon using the EGW CD Rom Disk or White Estate search engine. Remember King Nebuchadnezzar and when his mind was removed and replaced with the mind of a grass eating bull for seven years ( times) Daniel chapter 4. Our mind and body and time and stuff - actually belongs to God, they are all on loan to us upon condition. ( self does not like to admitt it but it's still true )

Would you rather have Paul explain after the fact as best he could put into words, or Christ or Father God or the Holy Ghost explain how They drew up the plans for our solar system, hung the worlds in space and keep them there and regulated, and give life and breath and all things ? If you wanted technical specs WHOM would you ask ?

Our best Scripture and SOP here on Earth is to put Heaven into us and get us into Heaven, but once there all the lesser stuff vanishes as God speaks and writes for Himself and we get to listen, reach up and grasp a finger, ask questions, hear Him speak for Himself, whether you are on tiptoe holding to Father God, Jesus Christ, or The Holy Ghost' finger, as you as a little child walk with them as They homeschool you. ( that will include the duties of the redeemed, and recess, lunch, field trips - too .)
