women must wear a covering when praying

Is this truth? I've not heard or seen anyone do this until recently. I thought that long hair was considered a covering? Is that enough? Never heard or read anything in SOP about this??

1 Cor. 11:5": But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
"6": For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
"7": For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
"8": For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
"9": Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
"10": For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

1Co 11:13-16  Judge among you* yourselves: is it fitting [or, proper] for an uncovered [or, unveiled] woman to be praying to God?
Does not even nature itself teach you* that if a man indeed is wearing long hair, it is a dishonor to him?
But a woman, if she is wearing long hair, it is a glory to her, because her hair has been given in place of a covering.
But if anyone seems to be contentious, _we_ do not have such a custom, neither [do] the assemblies of God.
(ALT translation)

I've wondered why men always take off hats when praying, but i almost never see women putting something on their heads when praying.  Interestingly enough, a little bit in India, and everywhere in Nepal, they do adhere to this custom today.

But what is the Bible verse really saying?  I don't know for sure.  I also cannot find any inspired clarification in the Spirit of Prophecy.

Basically, today, it IS seen as fitting for a woman to pray with her head uncovered.  So is that wrong? It looks like this is the "this is the best to do, but if it causes problems, don't worry about it" type of advice, and not a command for everyone to adhere to.

I agree with webmaster:  "It looks like this is the "this is the best to do, but if it causes problems, don't worry about it" type of advice, and not a command for everyone to adhere to."

There is very little said regarding head covering in the Bible or Spirit of Prophecy. We are not talking about something as important as the Sabbath or the sanctuary doctrines.

Having said that, I was convicted of the importance of covering my head about four years ago. The important part for me is the symbolism of being submissive to my husband and Christ. I covered my head full time for about two years.

However, my husband never really understood why and therefore could not support me in doing so. During our move to another country I met hostility and was labelled "strange and different". I decided the fight was not that important at this time in an Adventist community. Therefore, I stopped covering my head in public, although I do cover my head at home.

Another, aspect is that one of the main reasons for covering is to show submission to my husband. Part of that submission is not speaking against him in public. Covering my head in public would be the same as teaching head covering, when my husband doesn't teach that.
