Hi EVeryone,  A while back I made a statement that some people will die 3 times and I was doubted.  Now, 6 months later I have the scripture to prove this.

Matt. 26:64  Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Rev. 1:7  Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Dan 12:2   And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

So, in conclusion, those that were responsible for putting Jesus to the cross will be resurrected when He comes back the second time.  We call this the special resurrection because typically we think of this as a time when only the righteous will be resurrected and led up to Jesus and then to heaven.  This special group will be resurrected and then die by the glory/fire of His being.  They will be resurrected again with the wicked at the end of the 1000 years and be thrown in the lake of fire with Satan and his angels.  They died of natural causes in the time of Jesus, at the first resurrection, and at the second resurrection.

Not so fast newbie wink

Please read chapter 39 of the 1858 Great Controversy.  It talks about how the crucifiers of Jesus will behold him ------ at the 3rd Coming!

There is no talk anywhere about a special resurrection for the wicked.  Even Daniel 12:2 is not necessarily talking about ONE resurrection, maybe just saying that some being resurrected will go to heaven, and some being resurrected will go to the lake of fire.  Nothing may be mentioned about 1,000 years between these two resurrections.

It is appointed unto man once to die, and after this, the resurrection.

Dan 12:2   And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

The key to this is that this resurrection refers to the second coming of Jesus.  It says some to everlasting life so that refers to the righteous.  This is the only time the righteous will be resurrected so it refers to the second coming.  It also says that some will be resurrected to shame and everlasting contempt and that would be the special group that put Jesus to his death.

After the 1,000 years only the wicked will be resurrected and they all will be raised from the dead and will all see Jesus and the saints returning for the final judgment.

Special Resurrection of the wicked those that pierced Him

Dan. 12: 1: And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2: And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

John 5: 26: For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27: And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28: Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29: And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Matt. 26: 63: But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64: Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Mark 14: 61: But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62: And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Rev. 1: 7: Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Rev. 20: 4: And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5: But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

WEbmaster. I agree with you. Setting the record straight here. I was fooled by the 1911 GC. I went back to the bible and originals and found the answers. I'm so sorry and hope that I did not lead anyone astray.

Hello Student of the Word.
Here is the relevant quote from Maranatha:

When Christ comes the second time, not as a prisoner surrounded by a rabble will they see Him. They will see Him as heaven's King. . . . Then the priests and rulers will remember distinctly the scene in the judgment hall. Every circumstance will appear before them as if written in letters of fire. {Mar 282.7} Taking just this quote as a source, it does like very authoritative, that those who crucified Jesus will be resurrected at the 2nd Coming.

There are a few things to keep in mind here tho.
One, is that this book is not a book written by Ellen White.  It is a book that is compiled from many sources by later people.  Whether or not the compilers were led by God or not, we don't know.
Two, is that because of the compilation, we don't know if things are in order here, or taken at random and put together as the compilers thot best.
Three, is that the Bible says:
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: As far as i know, there is no mention in the Bible of anyone dying 3 times.  There is the death we all go thru, and there is the second death that only the wicked and Jesus go thru.  But nothing anywhere about a third death.
Fourth, is that the 1858 Great Controversy book, which was directly written by Ellen White as a book in chronological order, mentions the killers of Jesus only at the 3rd Coming.

So the conclusion is that the special resurrection only includes those righteous people who lived during the time of the sounding of the 3rd Angel's Message, just as the 1858gc says.

Yes, i do understand that this raises questions in many minds then of what the compiled books are teaching us....

Interesting!

What about those who Jesus resurrected during His ministry (e.g. Lazarus) - the Bible does not (to my knowledge) specify whether they ascended with Jesus (though others were certainly resurrected at his death [Matt 27:51-52] and seem to have ascended with Him [Eph 4:8]).

In DoA (p.786) we have:
During His ministry, Jesus had raised the dead to life. He had raised the son of the widow of Nain, and the ruler's daughter and Lazarus. But these were not clothed with immortality. After they were raised, they were still subject to death. But those who came forth from the grave at Christ's resurrection were raised to everlasting life. They ascended with Him as trophies of His victory over death and the grave.

So it would appear that some died twice (Lazarus, Nain widow's son, ruler's daughter), and await a second resurrection in their graves. If indeed these are exceptions to the rule (Heb 9:27), perhaps an exception in the case of those who pierced Jesus being resurrected at His 2nd coming is also feasible. Note that the 1911 revision of Great Controversy, which gives the impression EG White then believed in a special resurrection, was revised by Mrs White herself (as far as I know).

Fascinating study topic, leads on to all sorts of Adventist--non-Adventist disagreements!

"Fascinating study topic, leads on to all sorts of Adventist--non-Adventist disagreements!"

That is for sure! biggrin

It's definitely not that important, but can produce interesting details about God's dealings with us humans.

Please note that Ellen White did NOT revise the Great Controversy book in the 1911 edition.  If interested, please look on the White Estate web site for the description to the changes to make the 1911 Great Controversy.

Dear All. I have checked the 1858 version and the 1911 version there is an evident change in the meaning of when "those who pierced him" will see him again. 1858 version - 3rd coming; 1911 version - 2nd coming. Has anyone ever written to White Estate with the request for the explanation of this issue? I would really love to know the truth of whether or not Ellen White was aware of the changes made to her book? I mean, I know it's not a matter of salvation, but still in some compilations, she uses expressions like: "It was shown to me.." when talking about "those who pierced Him" seeing Christ again at his second coming. If this is a deliberate change done by the publisher on the request made by the General Conference Committee, that would be dissappointing but possible to survive :) (after all the Biblie often criticizes the leaders of the church). But if E.G. White uses prophetic expressions in places where they can't be prophetic, then we have a serious problem. Has anyone done any objective study on this issue, I really don't have time for this, (too much overtime working + Revelation studying), but I'll get into it if none has done it yet :)

Looking forward to your feeback.

Hello Voyteck,

It has been my number one project for the last 20 years or more to spread the original, 1858 version of The Great Controversy Between Christ and His Angels, and Satan and His Angels.  I've not found a single sentence exactly the same in the 1911 version of that book.

I've studied out the issue of the changes to the books for over 30 years, and believe that Uriah Smith was the main one behind the changes, but that basically, almost no one believed that what Ellen White wrote were the words of God.  So they edited and changed and deleted and other things with them.

The E. G. White Estate openly shows how the changes to the 1911 version of the Great Controversy came about.

Please read the Wikipedia entry on "Great Controversy" to get more information.

Some changes I've noticed over the years are on these two web pages:

What about the 1884 Great Controversy - the one she wrote after the 1858?  It is the authentic SOP as well.  Please notice on page 454 in the chapter God's People Delivered, it mentions that those who pierced him are also raised with those who died in faith under the third angel's message.   Please read the next few pages as well because it goes on to describes those wicked who pierced him.

I believe that volume 4 of the SOP (1884) is the one that Ellen White was instructed that should go to all the world - not the edited, changed and deleted 1911 version.

Then Jesus and all the holy retinue of angels, and all the redeemed saints, left the City. The holy angels surrounded Jesus, and escorted him on his way, and the train of redeemed saints followed. Then Jesus in terrible, fearful majesty called forth the wicked dead; and as they came up with the same feeble, sickly bodies that went into the grave, what a spectacle! what a scene! At the first resurrection all came forth in immortal bloom; but at the second, the marks of the curse are visible on all. Kings and the noble men of earth come forth with the mean and the low, learned and unlearned together. All behold the Son of man; and those very men who despised and mocked Jesus, and smote him with the reed, and that put the crown of thorns upon his sacred brow behold him in all his kingly majesty. Those who spit upon him in the hour of his trial, now turn from his piercing gaze, and from the glory of his countenance. Those who drove the nails through his hands and his feet, now look upon the marks of his crucifixion. Those who thrust the spear into his side, behold the marks of their cruelty on his body. And they know that he is the very One whom they crucified, and derided in his expiring agony. And then  there arises one long protracted wail of agony, as they flee to hide from the presence of the King of kings and Lord of lords.  . 1SG 214.1

Sometimes for a deep study you have to go to the original

the original harmonizes with the bible

The special resurrection comprises those that died during the proclamation of the 3rd angels message. Which would include EGW. This happens just before Jesus raises the righteous dead at His second coming.
They will then join with the living righteous 144k and go up to meet Jesus in the clouds. They will spend a 1,000 years in heaven judging the wicked.

Anonymous, Ellen White wrote a 4 volume set of books starting in 1870, all with "Great Controversy" in the title. The last one, volume 4, in that series is the one that we usually consider in the line of the first, 1858 edition. However, you will quickly notice that it does not start with the Fall of Satan in heaven, but with Jesus looking out over Jerusalem. That's because the beginning of the story of how God has dealt with sin was covered in the earlier books in the 4 volume series.

Yes, I agree with you that the 1884 version is much better than the 1888 or 1911 versions.

Just yesterday I got a email from a friend in the Philippines telling me that it now costs about 1.15usd/book to print 5,000 copies of the 1858 Great Controversy there.

Does anyone else wish to help?

Let's be good Bereans, and work to spread God's words everywhere.

Note that maranatha is a compilation. Check out the sources of the quotes and it will lead you to those that cannot be trusted for a deeper study.

SOP originals agree perfectly with kjv bible.
