Did She Really Know Them Well?

Here is an excerpt I would like to share with you that I have given a lot of thought about. I had a question I would like to ask at the end. Please read this:

"In this state of things it was decided that we would return to Battle Creek and there remain while the roads were in a muddy, broken-up condition, and that I would there complete No. 12. My husband was very anxious to see his brethren at Battle Creek and speak to them and rejoice with them in the work which God was doing for him. I gathered up my writings, and we started on our journey. On the way we held two meetings in Orange and had evidence that the church

was profited and encouraged. We were ourselves refreshed by the Spirit of the Lord. That night I dreamed that I was in Battle Creek looking out from the side glass at the door and saw a company marching up to the house, two and two. They looked stern and determined. I knew them well and turned to open the parlor door to receive them, but thought I would look again. The scene was changed. The company now presented the appearance of a Catholic procession. One bore in his hand a cross, another a reed. And as they approached, the one carrying a reed made a circle around the house, saying three times: "This house is proscribed. The goods must be confiscated. They have spoken against our holy order." Terror seized me, and I ran through the house, out of the north door, and found myself in the midst of a company, some of whom I knew, but I dared not speak a word to them for fear of being betrayed. I tried to seek a retired spot where I might weep and pray without meeting eager, inquisitive eyes wherever I turned. I repeated frequently: "If I could only understand this! If they will tell me what I have said or what I have done!" {1T 577.2}
I wept and prayed much as I saw our goods confiscated. I tried to read sympathy or pity for me in the looks of those around me, and marked the countenances of several whom I thought would speak to me and comfort me if they did not fear that they would be observed by others. I made one attempt to escape from the crowd, but seeing that I was watched, I concealed my intentions. I commenced weeping aloud, and saying: "If they would only tell me what I have done or what I have said!" My husband, who was sleeping in a bed in the same room, heard me weeping aloud and awoke me. My pillow was wet with tears, and a sad depression of spirits was upon me. " {1T 578.1}

I am concerned with the statement she made: "I knew them well" My question is, If this procession resembled a Catholic procession, and she knew them well, what was it that transformed them from Sabbath-keepers to SDA-persecuting Catholics? I would say that Ellen White did not know them well at all... This dream was more than a misplaced and meaningless nightmare, it was a prophecy in the night. What was it that made them join the Catholics?

Could this have happened on a small-scale already?  Have the leaders used influence to join sides doctrinally?  What do you think?

I believe this dream is a prophecy of what would be done with Ellen White's writings.

Also, after 1844 many of the adventists did turn against the Millerites.

masmpg, This vision was given i think in late 1860s, so does not refer to Millerites.  It is distinctly showing her home in Battle Creek with her husband, and she knew the faces of the Battle Creek people coming to "Conscript the goods" very well.

I believe this dream is a prophetic vision that foresaw the coming omega and how it would effect the denomination in the end.  The Kellogg controversy was the alpha or beginning, the acceptance of the trinity was the final straw on the road to destruction.  The changing of the writings happened all along the way as webmaster referenced...  Maybe a link in the chain of apostasy but I do not see the changing of the writings as a fulfillment of this prophetic dream, but it is significant.

This dream was prophetic and showed her what would happen in our time.  When panic comes, people will come and take all of our goods against our will.  There will be a time when we will be able to sell all of our things and give the money to evangelise the world.  We must do it during that time or all of our things will be taken anyway as she was shown.

The trinity is the truth, and nothing to do with this dream.
newbie, that is an interesting thot.... I've known for a long time that dreams and visions in the Bible have double or even triple fulfillments, but have not thot of the same with Ellen White's dreams and visions......interesting :)
