need help,

having an in church division over the health message. As i am growing in this message most members are striving to silence those of us who want to teach this important message. They use the arguement that Ellen white never said we are to give up meat and other animal based products. A pastor even said we are not called to be vegan unless we are preparing for translation.  Any thoughts on this issue.  How do we stand for truth without causing division.

You are very right John to push forward the health message.  This is the right arm of the 3rd Angel's Message

Unfortunately, many people in our church have rejected the 3rd Angel's Message, so they will naturally not want to accept the right arm of that message

For specifics on meat eating, eating with the blood in it is a sin as stated in Genesis 9:4 "But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat."  So if you eat a regular hamburger or steak, you are breaking God's command.  This is something we don't hear often in church is it?

We MUST make a sacrifice to enter heaven.  If we do not sacrifice our perverted tastes here below, how can we enjoy the refined tastes of the world above?

Keep on strong John!

Please read 1 Timothy 4:3

The command to abstain is unbiblical they are being lead to the truth and away from a lie.

It is so obvious the pastor spoken about in the initial post, cannot help but show his belief system, by his words against being a vegan!

Yes, I am a vegan, and became one in 1973, and having become a vegan believing it to be the most health-conscious way to eat, it was a blessing when, while looking for a Christian Church in 1974, SDAism taught the health message. This was one of the reasons why I became an Adventist in 1974, but I had been studying the Scriptures as well, and so I saw great light in their spiritual beliefs other than physical, as well!

What I hear that preacher saying is this: "Listen, my brother, why would you desire to be a vegan when it's going to be years and years until Jesus becomes ready to come to earth to takes His family back to the Kingdom?" Isn't that what his reply to your questions is really saying? Now, all those who truly love Jesus, want that Jesus was here yesterday, don't you feel that way? Believe me then, you can surely ascertain how close an individual is to Christ, by listening to his/her words, when speaking of His coming!

A few months ago, I was at a believer's place, having a Sabbath meal, and there was a great deal of joy there that particular Sabbath, because a new grandson had been born, and Grandma was so very happy, and happy she should be of course! Now I was speaking with her son, and we were speaking of the nearness of the hour, something that we often shared together, and our joy in finally seeing Jesus Come inthe clouds of glory, when suddenly his Mom, quickly said: "Oh my, I hope He isn't here that soon; I want to see my new grandson growing up some!" Those words spoke to that Mom's closeness to Jesus! You see, if I have been filled with the Love of God [agape], then there is absolutely nothing that is going to come into my life, that will take my interest from off my seeing Jesus coming for me! That is ALWAYS the very primary thought of my mind/heart/soul! How silly to have said those words: Why, would she not still see her grandchild growing up in the Kingdom? And if in the Kingdom, there will be no worry about his going astray from Christ, right? When we live for God, we show it, because our every thought is set in a certain calibration, by the Spirit of Christ within!

In these days that Scripture tells us "can try men's minds" {see Luke 21, with men's hearts failing them for fear}, we have to rely only on One, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ! Now, Christ is the Truth, we are told, and we know as well, the Spirit of Christ, is called the "Spirit of Truth." Now, we can clearly see then, that we must rely on Jesus, BUT the only way of doing so, that we might share in His divine nature [2Peter 1: 4], which ultimately gives us eternal life, is to follow Jesus by walking in His Truth!

Now, brother, I don't want to sound condemnatory here, because I can assure you, I have a great deal of God-given patience when dealing with people! We need those gifts of the Spirit to deal with people! But, I am telling you without condemning anyone, that you must do as you are led of the Truth, by the Spirit of Truth! My thoughts about the soon-coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, are very strong, and every day, I awake, with great joy because God has given me another day, and I thank Him, asking that I be part of the 144,000! I know I can bring most glory to God, by being a member of that faithful group of latter day saints, and that's what I desire more than life: to bring glory to God! Had you asked me that question concerning the health message, brother, I would have said, "Yes, for we have been told that only those who have gotten with the program concerning putting flesh foods away, can be part of the work of the last days, leading to the second coming!" Am I any better than your pastor? Not at all, but your pastor is getting himself too tied up with the joys of this world, just as others have gotten themselves so tied!

After all, if we have good jobs, with money coming in whereby we are "in need of nothing," then that is the essence of Laodicea, is it not? The only thing that turns the corner for me, if I am Laodicean, is a renewed love for God, brought about through constant prayer, study of Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy, because Ellen White makes those things we know from Scripture, come alive! and sharing my love for God, and my acute desire to see Jesus as soon as possible, which is seen by the Spirit Who inhabits me, showing to all about me, my exceeding love and wishing for to come, of the Lord Jesus Christ! This, for a pastor of the LORD God, is a must, for if the pastor of a Church is wishy-washy about the Second Coming, well the truth is, often, a church's spirituality is only as high as the pastor's spirituality! Show me a pastor who isn't always speaking and acting as if Christ will be here today, and I will show you a congregation lacking in the power of the Spirit!

May God bless and keep you, brother, and continue in your changing to becoming vegan, but do it gradually, and remember to READ your way into the vegan lifestyle, because you need to ensure you are keeping your physical body well nourished, for remember the beauteous words of Paul in Romans 12: 1, 2:

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Agape,

JimT

How does one keep from getting vitamin b12 and calcium defiecient on a vegan diet?

Hello Edith,

Nutrition for Vegetarians by Agatha and Calvin Thrash may be the best book to address your questions and a special blessing for those looking heavenward for the return of our merciful Saviour.

I believe B12 is manafactured in the gut of a healthy individual. I understand there are also plant sources of B12, comfrey being one of them. It grows very well as a perennial even in my cold climate of zone 4a which has reached -40 in February.

There are many good sources of calcium - seeds, nuts and greens. Will elaborate later when I have time. I believe the best diet for mankind is raw & vegan, as given in The Garden. The transition from the world's food to God's food requires wisdom, faith and patience, but God will supply all these and more if we are willing.

Gordon
